I need a suit

Go to Nordstrom and get yourself fitted. Ask advice from the people who make a living selling suits. You won't find a decent Hugo boss suit for $300, maybe $400 on a heavy discount if there's a Nordstrom Rack near you.

Certain brands fit certain ways, so it's best to find one brand that you like and shop for it. I wouldn't suggest buying online unless you really know your size and brand. A 42R in a John Varvatos won't fit the same as a 42R in a Canali or a Hugo Boss.

Also remember that you probably won't find a "perfect" fit, but tailoring is inexpensive and the way to make a suit your own.

Go to Zara. Reasonably priced Slim, European style suits. or try indochino.com

Get a $200 suit and get it tailored. A tailored cheap suit can look a million dollar. It will look more expensive than a $2000 suit that's not tailored, unless you're built like a d&g model

I second Zara. Best suits for the money.

I also love Theory, which is out of your price range unless you get a hefty discount from a place like Saks Off Fifth Ave or similar.

Century 21 has some great suits at cheap prices. That sounded like a commercial but seriously check it out.

they look nice ... not sure about pricing in the US?

I agree. But I can also tell you that I look better in an off the rack Hugo Boss then most of the guys talking **** here in $1500 suits.

You can get a suit at a hugo boss outlet for about $400-450.

Haven't tried the suits at Zara, but I'm a big fan in general of the store.

Don't buy suits from gilt, ruelala, myhabit, etc.
They are usually made specifically for the sale site with lower quality material and rushed production time
Sometimes it is crap that no one bought (true overstock, returns, whatever)
And they might even be items that were recalled for bad quality check during production (brooks brothers pulled all of their golden fleece suits one season ... which might have ended up on rue lala or gilt or something)

Go to brooks brothers and try different suits on. I found an $1100 suit for sale online in my size for $400.

Express makes very wear-able suits as well. Nothing wears like a nice suit though Solly, nothing!
