Smile Why Disable DRLs for HID Install?

I am a novice when it comes to the HID kits and DRL issues.
I have installed after market HIDs in stock Halogen headamps with the usual ballasts and new cables with secure connections. But, I have found that there is intermittent performance of the HIDs unless I disconnect the DRLs from the headlamp assembly [High Beam]. I have been unable to find a reason for this despite extensive reading of the forums. Can anyone please explain the concept in simple language?
Thanks and much appreciated.

^ What they said. I really wish cops enforced HID laws more strictly... would do more for safety than pulling people over for minor speeding violations.

DRLs don't run at a constant voltage . The voltage is variable. Can range from what I have seen from 9-13v. The HIDs need a constant steady voltage to stay ignited.
