First Track Day at Laguna Seca

Had my first track day with Trackmasters on Friday. Overall amazing experience and learned a lot about the M. Had a crazy close call during second to last session of the day and almost hit the wall exiting Turn 11 going onto the start/finish straight. (vids below)

Running stock rotors/pads /w Conti DW's (rears had 50% to begin with). Overall, I'm hooked. Having drove countless laps around this track in GT and Forza since I was a wee lad, it was a dream come true. Turn 8 and 8a (Corkscew) was not as bad as I originally thought. The only corner that gave me issues is Turn 11 and rightfully so if you watch the video. I highly recommend anyone take their stock cars to a road course and experience it.

I don't have any action photos as they are still being processed by the track day photographer, but I'm more than happy with the onboards I recorded using my phone and Harry's Lap Timer app.

Personal Best of the Day: (session 5) 1:56.68
Note: Lifting and shifting early between Turn 5-6 (uphill to the corkscrew) to meet sound check (92dba for the day).

First Track Day at Laguna Seca

Amazing! I plan to go before summer ends since it's only a 2 hour drive. I think I would have called it a day after a close call like that lol

How's running at Laguna seca work? What do you have to take? Pay? Do they out you in a certain class or is it open?

There's various organizers that run open track days at Laguna Seca. I used Trackmasters. Simply goto their respective sites and sign up. For that day, we had 3 run groups (Advanced, Mixed, and Intermediate/Novice). We had the track for the entire day 9:00am - 4:30pm. Each run group gets 20 minutes per hour on track and we rotate throughout the day with a lunch in between. Since I was doing 6-7 laps per session and we get 7 sessions total = 42-49 laps!!!)

I was in the intermediate/novice group. Both my group and the mixed have Point-By passing that means you cannot overtake unless the car in front points you by. For the first 2 sessions, many of the drivers in my group weren't glancing at their rear-views enough so they were holding up the pack but as we reconvened at lunch, the remaining sessions were smooth with people checking their egos and letting the faster cars pass. In the end its not about racing each other, its about having fun and bringing the car home in one piece.

I paid $240 for the day. Which for 50 laps at Laguna Seca?! It's worth every penny. Most fun I had in a long long time. If you decide to go, PM me and I'll join you.

Let that wheel spin freely to keep it out of the wall! Looks like a blast, and I absolutely love the telemetry in the video.

wow that was a close call! glad you didn't hit the wall. right when you felt it come out is when you should have let go of that steering wheel and let it slide.
i wish i had the opportunity for this.

Fun stuff. 49 laps with no issues and brakes responded 100%, the reason why maintenance is so important.

+1

Brakes saved the car for sure. After my first session, it was smoking. I learned to have a cool-down lap at the end of every session so the brakes don't cook like that when I get back to the paddock. Learned a lot.
