What's the adjacent light for?!
After almost 10 yrs of ownership and several e46's, tons of diys, then this ...LOL
Seriously, I turned my high beams, went around to take a look; The same running light got brighter, the second adjacent light stayed off. Car equipped with xenon. My previous e46, when I turn the high beams, the adjacent lights turns on. But it had halogen. |

It's called Bi-xenon. Search and you will find out what it does.

Not gonna lie ... it wasn't easy searching. Had to go to google ..
Still ... I have no light coming outta the adjacent light? I can't incorporate the following data "moving a shield up or down in front of the bulb (depending on the reflector design) to allow light to escape from the lens in a different pattern" When I have nothing to work with? |

I understand the same projector works as regular and high beam .. hence it's called bi xenon. Which what I have stated in my initial question without naming it. And my question still stands; what's the second light for? |

When you pull the stalk back the inner parts light up.
When you push forward the bi-xenon activates.

I could be mistaken, but I think the inner lights are also the daytime running lights. If you have this feature disabled, obviously, you wouldn't see them.

Like Jake stated, the inners light up when stalk is pulled back, this is the "flash-to-pass" feature. The inner halogens lighting up are easier to distinguish from a bi-xenon high beam.
