I've raced against a few 997 Turbo/TurboS. In a straight line unless they have PDK, they really can't compete. Around the track, GT3's are the ones usually keeping up with me(other than straights).

I will say though the 991 Turbo with PDK should be extremely fast! I am considering moving over to Porsche if they mess up the 2015 GT-R.

Let's not forget the 997 has been in production since 04 where as the GTR wasn't around til 08.
i was referring the 911 turbo obviously....
fun facts :
-the gt-r was released in 07.
- porsche has did a major face lift on the 997 and it still wasnt faster.
-given what the gt-r is, it will always be a better performance car than the 911 turbo.

After 30mph I would think a 997 Turbo S would begin to tip toe away from you. Turbo S is supposed to be faster in a line while to GTR is great around a skidpad. Now the 991 is wider and supposedly has a better chassis so it could probably close that gap, and after seeing what RUF did to the 991 S to make the RT35, I think Porsche is going to really surprise a lot of people with the FI versions.

I know RUF might not be a good comparison or indicator but it's all I could think to go off of for now.

Do you know what your talking about?

-only released in Japan in mid December of 07 (practically 08), released in US and Canada in mid-08, and everywhere else in 09.
-explain how cosmetics (facelift) changes the chassis and drivetrain?
-wat

I never raced one stock(556whp/586wtq), but on a highway roll the Turbo S(Mid Pipe Only) I raced had PDK and kept up fairly well. The other 997 Turbo 6 Speed with 480whp, I just walked away from. That transmission is amazing.

only released in japan? its a release, the date available. im sure some didnt hit other countries till at least a year later. should we count that too? the point is the TECHNOLOGY hit the market in 2007 thats all that matters obviously.

by facelift i meant overall changes. the gt-r came out in 07. the facelift was on the 2009 911

"The flat six engine now has a one-piece crankcase, high-pressure direct fuel injection, a pair of variable geometry blowers, unequal length intake manifolds, larger intercoolers and a free-flow exhaust with two separate catalysts.
Power is up from 473bhp to 493bhp at 6000rpm, while torque climbs from 457lb ft to 479lb ft, with the latter delivered all the way from 1950-5000rpm. And if you spec the Sport Chrono pack, an overboost facility delivers a stonking 516lb ft for up to 10 seconds at a time."

guess what? gt-r was still better. do your homework next time before you ask someone if they "know what theyre talking about"

I understand technically you could get one for about 2-3 weeks in 07 if you lived in Japan, still wasn't really around til 08 as I said. Sh!t if you lived in Stuttgart you might have been able to get a 997 for a couple weeks in 03, it's irrelevant.

And you said facelift.... a modest power increase hardly counts as a redesign, like you are trying to make it seem.

Ok to summarize. Nissan had 4 years to put out a better car than the 997. Now Porsche has time to come out with the FI 991. FI 991 will be a better comparison to the GTR. Porsche>Nissan 911>GTR

if you cant grasp the fact that the technology was around in 2007 then i dont know why im trying to help you learn something. modest power increase? it gained over 50 ft lb of torque are you insanely stupid or just cant admit when you are wrong? time will tell you how much better the gt-r is gonna be. porsche >nissan? in what way? more reliable? no. more profitable? no. better performance car? no.

one thing porsche does have on nissan is recycling engines. i mean who doesnt want a brand new $160,000 turbo s with a motor that has already been in someone elses car and is refurbished? google blue paint engine. porsche isnt so great, this is coming from a guy whos weekend dream car is a cayman r with a tpc turbo in it.

I came here asking GT-R vs. M4. Thread went towards GT-R vs. 911 Turbo/Turbo S. That must really mean something positive for the GT-R.

There is no sense in debating, some people like nissan more and some people like porsche more, no one is going to change anyones mind.

M4>gtr
Then again, I'd take almost anything over a GTR.

THis thread made me remember my hate for GTRs
