Reposado Tequila

I am going to go get some liquor for tonight, tomorrow night's SNF, and NYE. I am going to get some scotch, vodka and likely some tequila. I have been looking at the scotch thread, however I am still undecided. I prefer a smoky flavor like Johnny Black or even Double Black. I think Glenlivet 18, which a friend of mine prefers is good and smooth but a little weak on flavor. If you have any suggestions with bottles ranging from $70-$100 to save me from reading that whole thread I'd appreciate it.

I am going to get my usual vodka, Belvedere.

I have heard good things about Reposado Tequlias and that they are a good alternative to scotch sometimes. I will admit that until recently I believed that tequila was for shots only, so I am not knowledgeable at all about tequila. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice? Thanks in advance.

I use patron. These are THE best margaritas you'll taste, and I'm not much of a tequila guy.
  • 1 can frozen limeade
  • 1 can full of top shelf tequila (white or gold)
  • 1/4 can Grand Mariner
  • 1/2 can fresh squeezed orange juice

Fill blender with ice, add ingredients, blend. Line rim of glass with salt of choice

When you buy tequila, most brands will have several options. Theres always the blanco or slivers, which are cheapest, then reposado, and lastly the Añejo. Basing a purchase solely on it saying reposado would be a bad idea. Then it just comes down to personal preference. Brands like Patron will have one of each and then a few that are extra pricey. There are tons of new tequilla that i know nothing about. Some that I like which have been around for a while or are more commonly found would be Don Julio and Corralejo. I once tasted 30/30 which I thought was very smooth, but it's difficult to find.

If you have it available to you, look for El Ultimo. It's surprisingly good, rivals Patron in taste and smoothness. Has beaten Patron in some taste tests. It comes in the normal varieties.

This sounds really good. Our variation is a can of frozen lemonade instead of OJ, and 1/2 a can of lime.

Well I guess I can't do shots of tequila with you if we ever drink.

I've tried many since my dad brings back tequila every time he goes to Mexico. Don Julio has been the best so far.

Also consider Caballo Estrella Añejo 100% Agave, for around $25-$30 a bottle I'll give it 5 stars and could easily compete with Don Julio and Patron añejos.

My personal favorite tequila is Jose Cuervo Reserva De La Familia.

"Limited in production and distribution, each Reserva is hand-bottled, labeled, numbered, boxed and sealed in wax with the Cuervo family crest. Distilling tequila is an art and not only an art but a Mexican art. A passion for Mexico, tequila and Mexican art inspired Cuervo to celebrate each year's distinctive blend by commissioning a different Mexican artist to handcraft a limited edition wooden box."

Around $120 a bottle but very smooth and well worth the money.

You sound like a tequila salesman , but yeah that bottle is very special and should be drank straight and never mixed with anything.

I would have put back some tequila shots. What did we end up getting again? Whiskey right?

Two things to look for on a tequila bottle: 100% Agave and the town in Mexico where it was produced, usually Jalisco Mexico (not "hecho en Mexico"). Don't be fooled by advertisement, Patron is not a good tequila. Don Julio is pretty good, but the best thing to do is try different ones as most taste really different.
