VANOS Seals While VCG?

Not a typical VANOS post...I know how to search..

Just need some help making up my mind. Ordered the seals from Beisan, for no other reason than preventative, parts stash. Car runs awesome.

Do I go ahead and change them while I do the VCG?

VCG is leaking so getting on top of that before it gets worse.

Your car does not run awesome, not until you change the VANOS seals. you will notice a huge difference, unless your car has like 30,000miles on it

Similar thing here.
Am planning on doing VCG, OFHG, VANOS and plugs in one go, mostly as preventative maintenance but mainly to fix the leaky OFHG.

The vanos seals do not make a huge difference. Unless your vanos has other more serious problems.
But since you are doing the VCG, 50% of work is already done. So go ahead and replace the seals. DONT CUT YOUR FINGERS TRYING TO TAKE THE OLD ONES OFF!!

I'd say go for the seals and plugs(if you have not replaced them for 30K miles) while you're there. Also, you already have the seals, so do it.

I didn't notice much difference in mpgs, but it surely did help my low rpm torque.
Kind of a long job if you are planning to OFHG as well in one go. They are in the opposite sides of the engine. I'd say do the VCG, VANOS in one day and keep intake boots,DISA, ICV, MAF, TB and OFHG for the other. I like working on one side of the car at a time. Just me though.

The seals didn't make much difference on my 2.5 L engine. Maybe the difference can be only felt in 330 cars.

I did vanos seal and VCG together.
After everything was done, I didn't feel any huge difference, although it definitly helped cold idling.

ill be the a hole and ask....

has anyone ever tried to source these seals other then paying out $60?

if i had the dimentions id love to search locally... im on the same fence right now. i just hate burning money on overpriced things like this... yaya i know.. research costs.. but with increase in demand and supply the price should be lower by now.

just saying....

i know what you mean and im fimiliar with the material used . i know a couple places that specialize in gaskets and seals and use various types of silicone and rubber. they use same material.

thats why i was hoping i could get the dimensions.

Hello Chadrobb4,
I noticed your post from June of this year regarding VANOS seals while VCG? I am in the exact position now -- I have a slight VCG leak which I will be repairing and am considering doing VANOS seals. My 323Ci with 185K miles runs great - no cold idle issues and no noticeable low rpm power issues. I was wondering if you did do the VANOS seals, and if you noticed any difference?
