Ridin' Fresh - 5sp Edition

Owning BMWs seemingly is like a disease. I brought home another today and it honestly was not something I was really looking for. I was driving my E30 to lunch 2 weeks ago and noticed an Alpine White E32. I thought to myself that looks pretty darn good and I had never really even given them a thought before...

Off to Craigslist! I find a local car with higher miles but notice it's a 5sp. It has 2 owners. Stacks of records and from the blurry CL photos it appears to be in very good condition. Owner notes the number of owners and that it has been in the family for 18 years. Must go test drive and see if I can even give it a chance. Condition is as described and it drives awesome. What a great car! Spend a week working a deal, it was honestly overpriced to start, and picked it up today!

M30 Powered
5sp Manual Transmission

Wheels, drop and some minor mods to come. Then just going to enjoy driving it around!

E32 project is coming along nicely! Never thought I would own a 7-Series but with a manual transmission this is my favorite car in the stable right now! Manual trans in a huge/comfy luxo-barge sure is fun! Since we have had great success using Motorsports Hardware I contacted Ryan to aid in some spacers and longer bolts. Smooth transaction and I would highly recommend Motorsports Hardware for your bolts, studs(we race on them with our ChumpCar) and spacers. Perfect fitment and zero issues!

I found M-Systems in amazing shape with Throwing Stat covers locally. Killer deal so I had to jump on them. Unfortunately they came with brand new random Chinese tires that were noisy. Only 235 width as well so I went up a size to 245.40.17. Thus the spacers and longer bolts.

End Result:

245.40.17
17x8 ET8

Really happy with how it looks now. Decided on what I want to do in terms of a drop. Do not want it super low but know it would look really awesome with the Throwing Stars, 245s and a healthy drop. Going to do brakes next and completely rebuilt the suspension. While doing that I will decide a drop. Leaning on Vogtland or ST springs to match the Bilsteins on the car...

Wow. Thats all I can say..wow.. this has to be the cleanest e32 ive ever seen. The 5 Speed coupled with your exterior and interior combo makes for a rare car. I hope you can keep this gem beautiful for many more years to come.

I approve

T-Stars and style 5's are my fav. wheels for the E32!

I might have some E32 (my family has owned E32's since 1994) stuff laying around the house, if I do I will let you know and you can have it for free. Just pay shipping.

Suspension seems like a solid choice. I hear Vogtlands are soft-ish spring so the ride should stay nice and comfy when you lower it. You should cut at least 1 coil from the front spring when you install it :shifty It sounds ghetto, but it'll be worth it when you have awesome stance

Yes. I have read that on a lot of E32 springs. The front comes down 1.5in or so. Back the same. So tucking back just a bit but the front is a multiple finger gap because of the original ride height. Thinking maybe E32/E34 Ground Controls might be proper.

They are, but with E32/4 coilovers you have to modifly/shorten and powder coat the stock strut housings. And they are going to be coilovers on a friggin' 7 series, unless you get super soft spring rates IMO it would defeat the purpose of a nice cruiser like this. I think the Vogltands are a great choice, if I still had my 735 I would have gone with Vogtlands.

I love this car and it looks great on those wheels always wanted one and wtf, if the engine blows you have room for an LT1 or some huge euro power plant in there. Do not quit until she's doing 200mph, love it and good luck...

Looks good! ever thought about painting the high beams yellow? Not sure how it will look on green, but might be worth a Photoshop test.

Coilovers don't immediately equal poor ride. We'll see what I end up with.

oh man, awesome stuff here. 'My' first BMW was my dad's old E32 750iL and I miss that car more than I miss my 325 that I just sold last month

Hope to see many updates

I agree.
