Thumbs Up A few quick questions about Bilstein Sport & Eibach Pro-Kit

Hi dudes, I just installed my Bilstein Sports shocks and Eibach Pro-Kit springs today and I ran into a few things that made me raise an eyebrow so I just wanted to check and make sure I did it right. My car is an '02 330Ci.

1. Front Lower Spring Pad Orientation.

I installed the front springs and pads like this:



(with the end of the bottom coil against the stop on the spring pad)

Then I realized the instructions I was using from ECS Tuning (Link - Page 10) said to alight the end of the spring like this:



But that didn't look right to me. The instructions talk about H&R springs having a round bottom coil, but the Eibachs are more oval at the bottom, so they fit a lot better the first way.

So I put it back to the way I had it initially and installed it that way. Was that correct?

2. Bilstein Strut Insertion.

The stock Sachs struts stick through the pinch-bolt joint on the steering knuckle by almost 2". However, the way the Bilsteins seem to fit, they don't stick out at all (they don't fit past the lip at the bottom of the knuckle opening). Lining up the spring seats and sway bar brackets on the Sachs and Bilstein, that makes sense since the Bilstein is shorter like it's missing the section that pokes through.



I spent a while trying to force the bottom of the Bilstein strut past that lip before I noticed that. So now the way they're installed, the bottom of the struts are about flush with the bottom of the steering knuckle sleeve. Is that right?

3. Bilstein Strut Rotational Alignment

The instructions that came with the struts were pretty unclear, but it did specify that the gap in the steering knuckle sleeve should align with something on the sticker which is on the strut. I couldn't really tell from the diagram whether it should line up with the black rectangle with the "L" or "R" in it, or the small line next to that. I lined it up with the rectangle. Did I do it right?



4. Lowering Amount

I thought that these springs were supposed to give around an inch drop, but it looks pretty much the same now that I'm done! Will they 'settle' a bit over time, or is that just what it is?

And here is after (I'll get an exact wheel gap measurement tomorrow for comparison):

The spring is still not seated correctly. The top should fit into the notch and the bottom sits further to the right than you have it now. Away from the notch. Look at your OEM setup and follow exactly how those are aligned. The spring is probably hanging off the side a bit the way you have it now.

I actually had the same question/thread a couple of days ago, but i was using Koni Yellows and H&R springs. I installed using the same ECS guide, i did line up the springs exactly like the guide by having the end of the spring right above the "Dip" on the Strut where the spring sits. I got H&R sport springs and i did see a noticeable drop.

This is the correct way. Any other way and the spring will bulge off the strut.
