Windscreen replacement option: insurance

Has anybody had their windscreen replaced on insurance and did they put a genuine BMW one in?

Managed to talk the insurance co down a bit in price so thinking now i'll add the extra $50 for windscreen replacement option however i'm not so sure ill get away with claiming for a new one. Firstly i stupidly told the girl about the scratch caused by my wiper blades (whether she noted it on the file or not i dont know) but she went and asked the supervisor if this would be covered as i wasnt sure if it was only for broken windscreens. She said it would be. I also asked if it would be a genuine BMW windscreen and she said yes. Upon reading fine print i see they dont have to use genuine parts on windscreen claims. Obviously its gotta have rain sensors in it. These pricks have lied to me before at AAMI so i'm not sure what to do.

When I bought my car it had stone chips in the windscreen. I tried to get them fixed, but apparently they were too small or not eligible to be fixed. Anyway, my insurance (RAA) at the time had free windscreen replacement but it was a generic one. However, I was able to replace it with a genuine BMW one but I had to pay the difference. It was like $100 or something so I was fine with that.

Hmm might work then as i rang OBrien for this and they said they dont repair that sort of thing either and to go through the insurance co.

My Ride: .
I replaced mine last year under the windscreen cover that I added to my insurance policy.
They initially wanted to put a generic one in, and I said that it had to be a BMW only, given the exceptional condition of the car as well as the really low k's on the clock.
They wanted me to pay the difference but I persuaded them to cover the whole lot, because I've never had to claim anything and I've got all my insurance with them etc
Got a BMW screen fitted, but it's made locally in OZ with the BMW logo...

If you have the climate comfort windscreen (greenish tint stripe at the top of the windscreen) you can push for oem due to it being 'special' in that it cuts certain UV radiation and temps by 10 deg. If you go aftermarket you lose that

Yep, Had a stone chip -> crack on my Genuine BMW one on a standard 325Ci. O'Briens will probably run you up around the $600-$800 installed for a glass which has the rain and light sensors, assuming you have both. They replaced the window molding as well. Non-Genuine screen too. Its a job O'Briens will not do it mobile, you have to bring it in.

BMW quoted around $1500 for glass alone, + labor costs, not cheap.

The outright costs for these screens are not cheap, so could be one of their driving factors to get the cheapest screen across.

Pretty sure insurance companies can install 2nd hand parts as well. Check your agreements.
