Unhappy Recall Campaign 14V-428

I just got a recall notice from BMW telling me that when they get the parts I have to make a 3 hr appt. to get the front passenger airbag replaced. The nearest dealer is 50 miles away so this is going to suck, a half day of work gone. Anyone else get one of these lately?

Most dealers service departments are open Saturday if that helps.

That will help once the cold weather comes and I'm done working Saturdays myself.

I got one and the dealer says I have to go for an "inspection", then based on that they will order either the air bag or the repair kit. Then I can come back for a half day. I am also 40 miles from the dealer and the inspection cant be scheduled.

Yeah I got the letter and I had to make an appointment so they can check to see if this car is affected and then I have to come back different day for them to actually do the repair. Nearest dealer is about an hour away from me so it's pretty inconvenient if nothing else.

Is your car registered in a high-humidity state? Your sig indicates WI.

We do get some humid days in the summer, when we actually get a summer, LOL. I am located near Lake Michigan, but we're drier than say Florida in the summer.

Going through old mail, I found mine. Guess I have to take this in for a look see. Just a quick question, I went to my dealer to purchase some replacement wiper blade inserts, and the guy tells me they do not sell the inserts anymore. I like have my OE wiper, do not want to change. IF that is true, where are you getting yours from "inserts"?

My 2005 is at the dealer now for some rust repair under warranty. They are also doing the airbag at the same time.

Do you have any pictures of the rust?

Negative ... it's a small bubble starting on the rockers behind the front wheels, below the fender.
I had them repair a small spot below the rear tail light last winter, and, they replaced the whole tailgate over a very small spot. All part of the 12 year rust warranty, all free. There's some word-smith-ing in the fine print of the warranty, but I called BS with the service manager. It was actually the guy I deal with at the parts counter that told me to challenge the warranty and get it fixed. Glad he gave me the advice.

I've got rust bubbles all over, under the passenger side rear door, around the right tail light and a stain coming from the lower hinge area on the passenger front door. The car will be 12 years old in a few days and I'm not the original owner so I'll just live with it.

I called up my local dealer and told them I got the notice. They looked up the last 7 of the VIN, said I was eligible and they will order the parts and call me when they come in.

I was surprised at how willing they were given some of the stuff I've read on here.

They said it will only take an hour, but I want to try to finagle a loaner out of it... I want to see how the f30s drive

Got the notice, I'll have to contact the nearest dealer to find out more.

I contacted a dealer and they said parts are available and I could schedule a Saturday appointment after October 18.

I got the notice too. Was debating on having it done. The letter said I would be notified when the parts were in and until that time I should warn passengers that if the airbag goes off they may have small shards of metal to contend with. LOL

Same here. Fortunately I don't often have passengers and when I do it's only for short trips.
