A revolver is a fine weapon. In this case, it proved itself. It went bang 6 times, keeping the family safe and let them retreat. If that isn't a selling point, I don't know what is.

It's not the 'liberal' media skewing the gun debate, it's not Piers Morgan's FOB-ishness. It's the simple reality that for every instance where guns save lives in a meaningful way, there are a dozen instances where guns fall into the wrong hands and get abused. Which is why you see more of the abuse stories in the news than the good stories. If anyone argues that the solution to gun abuse is to put additional guns in the hands of civilians, keep in mind the leverage ratio is piss-poor - more innocent people will get hurt from those additional guns than innocent people getting saved.

Sure, guns can help save lives when used in a crisis by the right people in the right way, but at what cost to society on a macroscopic scale? Something to think about..

Can you cite a reliable source of research that backs up your 1:12 ratio of life saving gun usage:gun abuse?

Or did you just pull that out of thin air because it sounded about right to you? If you did, you should consider that your (and all our) perceptions are based in part on hard information, in part on rational extrapolation from the hard information, and in part on your imagination (which incorporates all your biases, prejudices, wishes, fears, desires and so on) filling in the gaps of what you don't know and can't rationally project.

I'm gonna bet you can't cite a reliable source for your 1:12 ratio. So that leaves extrapolation and imagination. If you go to extrapolation and the first thing you think about is what you see/read in the news, well, that's a nice little vicious circle, isn't it?
