My Ride: 1999 323i
E46 asc

I bought a 99 323i in Sept. as a commuter car. I learned recently that it does not have LSD knowing all along that it did have the ASC traction control. It doesn't even appear that LSD is even an option unless your car is an M.

My question is this. Was it the intent of BMW to have the ASC traction control replace LSD thereby replacing mechanical for fly by wire? Or is it that they as a company have resorted to cutting their standards to sell more cars?

And please don't get me wrong I absolutely love my 323i, it is a great car and I am a firm believer in the I6 engine layout and the ease of DIY maintenance. Simply put I sort of assumed that BMW's for what they cost would come with an LSD standard as they claim to be "The Ultimate Driving Machine".
