My Ride: 2005 330 convertible
Cool no high beams

First time BMW owner. I bought a 2005 330ci convertible. the vehicle had been in an accident prior to me purchasing it (front end collision). the vehicle is repaired and i am in the process of repairing the damaged wiring and installing the headlights. The vehicle does have factory xenon lighting. Everything works except the high beams! When i switch to high beam the dash indicator comes on leading me to believe that the switch is good. With the fog lights on if i switch to high beam the fog lights shut down as they should. fuses #9 and #32 appeared to be good but i swapped them out anyway. I removed the high beam plugs on both sides and put a meter to them, no juice either side! All the repairs were soldered and all the plugs are correct BMW plugs and are all on tight. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks from a new guy

Re: no high beams

My initial thought would be to tell you to check your fuses but you did already. Have you traced the wire to see where it goes? It could be cut somewhere. Not quite sure. Seems like a weird problem

2005? That means you have bi-xenon. Were you checking the inner halogen plugs? Unless coded, it won't turn on with the high beam.

Does the "beam throw" change when you switch to high beam?

What happens when you flash-to-pass? (Pull the signal stalk towards you)

Couple possibilities:

The car had halogens from the factory, and the PO retrofitted HIDs without retrofitting the bixenon stuff
The car came with bixenons, and after the accident a pre-2002 harness was used
The bixenon connectors were accidentally left unplugged

AH..HA !!! This is why I came to this site ! Thanks Guys...Again new to the world of BMW! I have been working on this car during the day. I would turn the headlights on and the outer light would light up. Then I would turn on the high beams and nothing (so I thought). I was looking for the inner light to light up as it would with most vehicles, and again it was daylight so I did not notice the change in brightness in the outer bulb. Had I been standing in front of the vehicle with somebody else flicking the switches I would have noticed but I was alone. No power to the black plug led me to believe that I was getting nothing to the high beams. Waited for evening today and what do you know everything works as it should. The only problem I actually had was my lack of Knowledge about this vehicle. Thanks for the education fellas !!!

^ Glad to have helped.

You can "code" your Light Control Module (LCM) so your inner halogen to turn on AND your foglight to stay on when you use your high beam... Search for PA Soft, NCS Expert.
