are you traveling through central america and somalia?

why do you equate traveling to needing a gun for protection? do you know the conceal laws in each place you plan to carry?

No this is something that I plan on learning throughout this process and reasoning is simple. When I was younger and my family was traveling from Virginia to north Dakota (where my mom is from) we were held at gun point at a travel stop and it was honestly one of the scariest things I have ever experienced. I don't plan on going through that again.

I think that would defeat the defense argument.

how will a concealed gun help you avoid being in that situation again? you lived, didn't you? you complied with the thief, lost a little money, pissed yourself, and didn't escalate the situation with a firearm.

add a gun to that scenario.

a) you and your sister are held up, acting like a hero you try to unholster your gun and upon seeing you reach into your shirt are immediately shot in the chest and die immediately. your sister, as a witness to your murder is subsequently shot execution style between the eyes.

b) once again, you are held up by some thug. you realize that taking out your gun at this point you will be shot in the chest as in scenario (a), and decide to comply with the mugger. after taking your wallet and cell phones, the thief begins to flea, but not before you take out your glock and cap that fool in the back as he's running out the door. "gotcha mutherfvcker!" you think to yourself. opps, you are on surveillance camera committing second degree murder.

Your scenario is a nice sunny day. How about if the armed thug decided to begin raping this guys's his sister at gunpoint while all he could do is stand there defenseless. Is a firearm still worthless?

Why would you assume that someone holding you at gunpoint is going to make the rational / reasonable decision to let you go after getting a wallet. People get shot for not having enough cash in their wallet all the time.

Your views are short sighted to say the least.

If you want to rely on the benevolence of a thug with a pistol in your face, please do so. There are times an opportunities to fight back with a firearm. Each scenario is different, so to sit there and state that any situation he encounters would not benefit from a firearm is simply asinine.

Know the statutes!! One stupid mistake by assuming something incorrectly could put you behind bars for a very long time. I bought a Florida specific gun book that breaks down everything I could have questions about that I supplemented with the statutes.

Additionally, I would recommend doing a lot of shooting before you actually carry. I didn't like that advice when someone told me the first time (old time shooter who knew better), but it is very wise to have tons of rounds down range and be comfortable with your firearm platform before ever carrying. Make sure to invest in proper carry gear too, not this gun show or uncle mike's crap.

I took a three hour course and submitted my forms to the department of agriculture where everything is done electronically including fingerprints.

I showed up with 2 forms of ID, took a test which your "class" will give you the answers for (common sense questions), took their test online, submitted electronic fingerprints and was mailed my actual CCW ID roughly 6weeks later.

This is considered fast here in Florida. Most important thing to do is research your ID and know exactly what it does, and even more specifically does NOT allow you to do. Remember, even if you have a Ccw AND you're a great shooter, you too could wind up in jail for something small. Also research which states it reciprocates with. This is the best noob advice I can give you for now. I could type a whole page but I'm too lazy
