Just swapped my diff.

I just swapped a 3.38 rear end in my 330ci and all I can say is wow. It kicked up the acceleration quiet a bit. Only ran into trouble getting the drive shaft off, but nothing a little force wouldnt fix lol.

This has got to be the best bang for your buck performance mod. $200 for a rear end with 40k on it. I would say it makes the car quicker than all other bolt on mods put together (with the loss of a little top end speed).

|2.93 - 3.38| / 2.93 * 100% = 15.4%
|3.38 - 3.91| / 3.38 * 100% = 15.7%

So it should feel about the same.

You should really look into picking one up. It just wakes the car up. Even when you are just normally driving it takes a lot less effort to get going. The car should have came like this from the factory.

My cruising rpms at 65 mph did change from 2500 to 3000 but I dont think it will hurt the gas mileage by more than 1 or 2 mpgs. City mileage may actually improve because it takes less throttle to get going. It would be nice to have a 6 spd for an extra hwy gear but a trans swap is not in my budget right now.

send it to Dan at Diffsonline and get a LSD installed, adds a good bit of cost but that will transform your cars performance

There is a guy local to me that buys totaled bmws and parts them out. I found it after doing some searching on craigslist.

Go with an LSD, your least expensive choices are: (Clutch type) "wanganstyle" two clutch pack unit, or (Gear type) Quaife / Wavetrac. Figure about (roughly) $1800 dollars all in.

But remember, your LSD pumpkin has ABSOLUTE resale value to anyone here on E46Fanatics, probably .75 cents on the dollar. So when you look at it like that, it really is a good investment/performance mod.

Good luck.
