airbag light after removal replacement

I removed the airbag and trim from my ZHP to show them in the pics with a new alcantara steering wheel and after replacing to car the airbag light is on. I have checked and rechecked all the connections and there are no codes? what can it be?

Did you disconnect the battery when you did this?

Always remember to Disconnect the Battery whenever you mess with the airbag system.

You will need to have the airbag module codes read and reset. A standard OBD2 reader won't do it.

What does resetting an airbag code really do? Is this hazzardous - especially after replacing an airbag?

You turned the key on while the airbag was removed.

You need to reset the SRS now. Sorry.

The SRS is a Safety of Flight item. ANY error that shows up, with the possible exception of the seat occupancy detection, that triggers a fault requires the system be reset. Seat occupancy detection means that if the passenger seat is empty, the airbag won't deploy anyhow, but if it is not empty then the SRS light may come on to warn you that the passenger may not be protected.

But, you took the steering wheel off so the airbag light came on and will remain on until the system is reset.

The system goes out and polls each component -- do you work? -- when the key is set to Run (Position II). Any component that does not respond affirmative to the poll will trigger a fault that cannot be cleared without a Reset Tool (diagnostic package) that first confirms that all is well. A seat occupancy sensor is the only exception. The polling question might really be, are you active and do you work? If the seat is not occupied then it is not active, and therefore it does not matter if it does not work, and the Airbag Warning light will be out until the seat is occupied. The driver's seat, by definition, must always be occupied so the light has to be reset by the diagnostics if it comes on. The disapperance of any airbag from the system during a System Check is a fault that demands a reset tool, not merely the return of the airbag.
