How easy to steal E46 M3?

I know, kind of a funny question but the reason I ask is, here in Orlando there has been quite a bit of auto thefts lately, last week a 1,500hp Supra as well as my roommates Acura RSX Type S, both cars I would expect to hear stolen if the proper steps haven't been taken to protect them (which in both cases they weren't)

So outside of someone getting a spare key, or actually towing the car itself away, does anyone know the likeliness of someone being able to get into the car and get past the ignition and actually drive off in an E46 M3?

If they go the ultra high tech way - it can be done in < 2 minutes. That hardware is hard to get.

If someone really wants it - they can drag it onto a flatbed. Most M3s don't have alarms. Even if they did - people would probably think its a repo and ignore it.

Make sure your valet key is not in the glovebox/car.

I stole mine in under 2 minutes.......

In all seriousness, the EWS would make it pretty hard to steal without a matched key. But pro's are pro's - they adapt and overcome.

Well im aware of how they did my roommates rsx because it was recovered before stripped. I think the thieves were awaiting to see if it was lowjack equipped or they were possibly spooked but I can't see them doing the same method for my m3.

I do realize the whole "if they want it they will get it" factor but thieves in my area are mainly degenerate ricers who go for Japanese cars
And I get the re-po tow away but thankfully our alarms are loud as hell, my m is paid for and I am a gun owner...

how easy to steal E46 M3

Very easy, all someone needs is a ecu, ignition with key and mobilizer and your car is gone. A guy who knows what he is doing, all this can be done in 5 to 10 min maybe quicker.

So if he has those items, how does one get inside without setting the alarm off, especially if equipped with the interior motion sensor.

Definitely not an easy task to steal an e46 m3 but I know of two e46s in my area that were stolen. So yes if a thief wants it they'll take it, regardless of what alarm you have.

Turning the alarm off in our cars is so stupidly simple - a small child can learn to do it in two minutes.

You think I should post that in the open thread?

The method has been well-known for years.

Lo-Jack. Not an alarm, but you'll find it quick assuming the thieves don't rip the car apart to find it.

Because of questions like yours? You're the one who asked what's the likelihood of someone breaking into an m3 and then asked for details on how someone would go about breaking in undetected and disabling the alarm system.

Who said anything about turning the car alarm off from the outside? At least without a keyfob...

If you spend a small amount of time to understand how the alarm system works - you wouldn't have to use terms like "I think...". Its not black magic or electronic trickery.

In fact - modest research on good forum's archives would reveal the method.

You seem to think that the alarm design is sophisticated.

Ask yourself this: "How does this alarm system work?". Step by step.

This thread is going nowhere fast, since you are a gun owner and have your car paid off I wouldn't worry about it.
