i installed the same
you get the familiar "windows start button" and don't ever need to deal with the windows 8 "apps layout"

Havent used it on a computer, but my understanding is it is very difficult to use without a touch screen. I did, however, just get a windows phone (htc 8x) and absolutely love it.

I concur that Start8 is $5 well spent. Let's it act exactly like Windows 7 while you familiarize yourself. I spend most of my time on the desktop still, but I do use the Metro UI for some apps and like it quite a bit. It's good for media stuff.

why would you put windows 8 on a non touch screen computer. there is your problem

and i don't care what microsoft says, its a touchscreen only operating system. what innovations have been made besides that in comparison to 7?

I played with a Windows 8 laptop at Best Buy for 20 minutes. In that 20 minutes, I managed to find the control panel in hopes of going to a "Classic Windows" type layout. When I couldn't find said option, I unleashed a flurry of profanities and screamed how Microsoft is . I can't believe those mother went from something that works fantastically to a "universal" tablet style.

The absence of Aero Glass is almost as disappointing as the Start menu. Why remove glass? It was so pretty.

I'm rockin' Win8, no problems at all. I kinda have to since macs don't support my Autodesk CAD programs...

What specific problems do you guys have against it?

The layout. Looks and works like ****. Why should I have to un learn everything I knew about windows to do something slower and less efficient than before? I'm not an idiot, I don't own a tablet. I own a computer and I want it to work like one.

I hate it but I've heard it's much better with a touch experience so I tried one out at Costco. I couldn't figure out how to quit an app. You have to slide in from the right edge. No IT department in the world is going to want to support this crap.

Bought a Samsung Ativ smart pc pro and played with it for about a week with Windows 8. I think I thought it was cool at first cause it was something different but ended up returning it for a Macbook Air.

I'd say it was a bit of a pain re-learning the layout (Using the "start button" for example, or even looking for MSPaint) but overall you can navigate your way through the OS pretty efficiently, especially if you have a nice touchpad and use a few shortcuts. The only real problem can be cycling through apps (Adobe Reader, Image viewers, etc.) but even that isn't a REAL hassle. It's just a matter of getting used to it, and once you do, I tink it's just as fast, if not a little more fluid. There are also one or two points I like about it, stylisically. The way the new windows are designed graphically is pretty neat, and the color scheme is rather pleasant and even adapts to match whatever screen background you select. Beyond that, it runs well all the software I need it to so I can't complain.

Don't get the big fuss here...
