323ci body work thread

I bought this 2000 323ci a year ago knowing it had alot of body filler on the right rear quarter panel. The bondo started cracking not long after i got it at the body line. So i figured it was time to sand it all down and do it the right way. keep in mind this is my daily driver and i have 150k miles on it.

this is where the body filler was cracking as you can see water was getting in and rusting a bit.

we found some more cracks and noticed the body filler was getting thick. So we kept sanding.

at this point i was hitting the quarter with a hammer getting the 3/4" thick bondo sheets off. I knew that the quarter needed to be replaced and im not sure why they did not replace it. or at least pull it out.

this is the view on the inside. they literally cut a hole and bent it over to do im not sure what? and folded it back over and spot welded it.

So i decided it was not worth $600 for a quarter panel. we decided to break out the stud welder and pulled the quarter out a good 3/4"

about what it looked like after we pulled it.

and this is where i left off last night we have all the body filler in and there is next to no filler compared to before just enough to shape it. today we are going to sand and shape for a few hours and fix a few other dings throughout the car and hopefully paint it here pretty soon. the paint is sitting in the garage waiting to get sprayed.

this is a work in progress just thought i would share it with you guys. i still cannot get over the horrible body work that was under this paint.

OMG!!!!!! at the first pic I was saying there is no way the mud is that thick, it must be my imagination!!!
You never really know when buying a used car. At least you're getting it handled.

That's gonna be a lot of work to get perfect again. Thinking a new quarter would have been faster and easier.

i wanted to put a quarter on it but i just couldnt justify 600 bucks this only cost 30 bucks in body filler and its actually coming along pretty nice.

Looks good! What's that spot directly above the wheel well, looks bumpy, could be the lighting.
