Exclamation NY newspaper uses FOIA, publishes map, names, addresses of gun permit holders

Good info if you're a thief wondering which houses you should avoid.

Quote:
A local New York newspaper is drawing the ire of its readers after publishing an interactive map that shows the names and addresses of thousands of residents who have handgun permits.

The online map was published by The Journal News along with an article under the headline: "The gun owner next door: What you don't know about the weapons in your neighborhood."

The newspaper obtained, and then published, the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Perfect, now the people who bought a firearm illegally on the street can go get a fresh one.

Before it's deleted, here is the contact info for the people responsible for the story. I intend to write a truly friendly message to each asking if they really believe the police will protect you in the first 5 minutes of a crisis, or in times of regional emergency. Like Katrina?

Precisely one reason I argue against registration of firearms. Absolutely ridiculous. If the state of New York wants to collect these things, the records should be sealed except for those who would need to access them, Law Enforcment. That's absolutely insane

Maybe next they'll publish the names, addresses, and phone numbers of everyone receiving unemployment and disability.

half the people collecting disability are liars.

one of my friend's ex boyfriends got into a car accident and won a settlement because his leg got fucked up. he started collecting disability (on top of his ludacris settlement) 6 months after he got his settlement he started doing MMA and from what i hear he is still gets a disability check

Ohio did this when the CCW came out originally 7 or so years ago. I don't recall the backlash, but it was discussed today.

Yet people were calling in to the radio station and saying "These people went out of their way to notify the police of the weapons they possess"

Even though they were agreeing this is outrageous, it's kinda funny to hear how people could be so dumb.

EDIT: Found some old articles:

I just wonder how much longer we're going to tolerate this until society blows up and people start revolting.

hopefully we start soon, in my line of work (attorney) I see a staggering amount of BS and fraud when it comes to "disability" and other entitlements.
