Glock slide rail flaking

My G27 gen4 rear slide rails have the nickle coating flaking off and copper exposed. There is under 200 rounds on this gun and it seems like a bad plating job. How common is this,can or should I call glock for repair,or do I just hone and polish it down the shoot the heck out of it for ten years and never think about it again?

Glock uses a copper lubricant from the factory. Are you sure that it's not just the original lubricant wearing off exposing the slides, and not the metal wearing off exposing copper slides (the slides are not made of copper).

That's normal. Nothing to worry about. Don't polish anything, don't hone anything, nothing.

I saw the original copper lube when the gun was new. This is definately the outter layer of plating that is comming off exposing the apparently copper plating under layer,similar to a chrome plating prosess,of the steel rail. It catches a finger nail or a tool. So Reedo,does it eventually smooth itself out without gouging the slide? I have never seen this happen with a gen3 (this is my only gen4) and also there is no wear on the front rails.

Edit: checked out glocktalk,its common and possibly coated for corrosion resistance and like you said Reedo,works itself out with use. Thanks.

Yep, normal. Glocks are simple and built like tanks. Pics do not look that bad to me. As normal with a Glock, fire and forget.

Its a Glock. Leave it alone.

Like when buying older used weapons, 1st it must fire! 2nd, is wear and character showing use but also the care put into the weapon. Unless it is for your wall or just to show off to your buds. Leave it alone, use it often and maintain well.

This is my EDC bought new a few months ago and barley has gone 200 rounds. It just had me concerned that stuff was flaking off so soon. I'll put a few hundred more through it and see if it smoothes itself out. I would like to see some other examples of this to tell if it is just a gen 4 issue,or non-issue.

The tenifer coating on the slide is extremely hard, and that coating is inside the slide rail grooves. There's bound to be some wear present. Since the gun is basically new and barely fired, it's normal to start to see some visible wear developing. Give it more time and more rounds fired through it, and it'll smooth out normally. The components involved are the same between Gen3 and Gen4, so it's not a generational issue. I've seen this occur on all new Glocks I've ever looked at or inspected.

Ok, now that I have learned more about it I am glad it is not a concern. Thanks for the extra input. I guess its time to test out my new mags that were just delivered.

Want to know how many times I cleaned my first glock after 5 years of ownership? 2 times (one time a friend did it because he was bored). . Never failed. Loved it. Sold it for a m&p 15/22 and had to purchase another glock because I missed it.

Yeah, I'd be lying if I said my EDC Glock 27 was clean right now.
