Under $10 Phone mount.

Not sure if this belongs here or in ice...

But put this together with a $2 piece of jointing metal and a $5 Cell phone holder. Ill probably powdercoat it with the next batch i do... Its not finished but mocked up, what do you guys think? Please ignore my broken trim piece... Thats next to be fixed...

All work was done with a rotary tool and some clever bending.

ghetto. You might as well just put Velcro on the back of the phone and stick it to the dash that would look better.

The one I have looks pretty much like that, only it is painted black, and has a lot of different holes in it to mount various types of holders to it. It was in the original e46 I bought, and I held on to it when that car was totaled. I did not like the holder attached to it, but I found another one that was perfect, and it is the exact same one you have! It lined up with one of the sets of holes on my bracket. That particular holder is good because it is so adjustable, and you can move it to a position where it is not pressing any buttons.
So, you are on the right track. You are securing it with the nut that is under that trim piece, I assume, and that is exactly how mine secures. I think mine is perfect now, and I am glad I held onto that bracket, even though I ditched the phone holder. I have no idea where the PO found it, but it fits perfectly under the trim, and the trim still seats correctly.
You are 98% of the way there. Ignore the people telling you differently. You just have to tweak the bends a bit, drill whatever holes you need, and powder coat it.
I can snap a pic of my bracket, if you want, so you can see exactly how it fits. But to be honest, you are almost there. Good work!

I like it. Resembles several I have seen online. When you get it powder coated, it should look great. Very ingenious.

The ghetto remarks are harsh. I live in a small town full of ghetto fabulous car mods. That holder looks factory compared to some shizzle I have seen.

I wouldn't want that thing mounted to my dash if it was OEM.

For $10 you can get a vent mount. But nice innovation

Innovative for people that don't mind that kind of thing sticking out of their dash. I personally don't understand the need for a phone mount like that though. Talking? get a bluetooth headset, much cleaner. Navigation? Better to get a phone mount that suctions to your windshield. Not for me

Not bad.

Seems like it would be sort of in the passenger's space, though.

Actually there is plenty of room.

The less on the windshield the better. It spins sideways for nav though.

Seems kind of out of reach to me... I wouldn't want to have to lean that far forward just to change my destination or what have you. Certainly looks a lot better then it did at first though
