Fuji X10
Has anyone played with this yet? I am thinking about picking one up as a more convenient option to my SLR... it looks awesome.

I was interested, around the time of the disaster in Japan. It looked like there might be a significant delay in availability, so I looked for something else. Ended up with a Sony Nex, and a Nikon lens adapter. I'm very happy with it, but still in search of the ideal camera. My Sony DSC-R1 came closest, but I am thinking that I need to go back to DSLRs.
So, I guess I'm in for info. Dpreview.com only has a preview, but it is based on a production camera, so maybe a review is in the works.

Sneaky has the big brother, the X-100 and his shots turn out great. I'd be all over the X-10 if I was in the market.

i have the X100. I had the X10 for about a week. VERY cool camera, but more like a toy P&S. the X100 feels like a "camera."
more to come on my blog. i posted a little piece about it, but no formal review yet. (not that i am some pro reviewer! - LOL) http://chrisbilodeauphotographyblog.com

I am going on a ski trip in early January so I hope to see how the Fuji X10 performs. I will probably take my 5D2 but definitely not taking it up on the slopes or anything. If I am not happy with the X10 I might sell it for the X100 but I like the flexibility of a zoom...

Funny you mention toy cameras. I just ordered a Holga lens for my Nex.

"toy" is not the best term, sorry. it is a great camera, but felt small and not as bulky as the X100, which has more manual controls and a serious OVF.

Just got it tonight and not sure quite what to think of it. To be honest, I think I had unrealistic expectations. It is definitely a really good P+S rather than a DSLR substitute. I cannot decide if I want to keep it or if I want to get the X100. One of my complaints is that you cannot shoot in RAW while using the EXR feature which seams to produce the best quality images. I will also say that using the LCD screen seems to be a lot more practical than looking through the view finder.
I have never been a single focal length kind of guy so I don't know how I would get a long with the X100. Maybe I will rent it for a day or something. Some quick shots straight from the camera... (In the second shot my rug definitely red... not pink.)

you will want the X100. did you not read my post, website, and blog?
![]() the X10 is a fine P&S. but, if you're a pro (or into photography) then the X100 will be far superior. why? the APS-C CMOS sensor. there is no way a tiny sensor can compete. the X100 has far better high ISO and has great manual controls.

ya I might go rent one for a day and see how I like it. I'm just not a prime lens guy.

Leica makes no zoom lenses. Henri Cartier Bresson shot with primes. Ansel Adams did. it's all about advanced thought an framing. i shoot professionally on the side, but my favorite piece of glass is the nifty-fifty! (and i have a 24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8). the 50mm f/1.8 is $200! the others cost over $1500 each. zoom with your feet and become a better photog... my 2 cents.

I have a 50 1.8... I need to take it out for a day and just see what only using a prime is all about. I have heard a ton of people say what you are saying so I know it must be true.
That said - My intention with the X10 was to get away with trying to take "great photos" and instead just take snap shots of vacations or family events or whatever to remember them by... I found myself not taking pictures with my 5D2 if I didn't see an artistic picture in it... and as a result I wasn't documenting whatever event was taking place.

I was pretty underwhelmed when I first got my EP-1, probably for the same reasons you're not loving the X10, expecting DSLR-ish results... But once I started looking at it as something I could carry literally everywhere without any hassle I started to enjoy it a lot more.

Bump. I just ordered an X10. It should be here in a few days. I'm looking forward to using it.

Yes...I do think I hate you

Maybe as a replacement to a DSLR but that thing is still pretty expensive. I rather just get a good P&S like the canon S110 as an easy carry camera.
*Oops, thought this was the X100.*

Yep. I love the look of the X100 but can't justify the price tag. I got the X10 for less than $400.

RX100
http://www.dpreview.com/products/son...scrx100/review ![]() Although it is hard to substitute for the functionality of a DSLR... even if cameras like the X100 and RX-100 can occasionally beat SLR picture quality. Last edited by Grande D; 02-02-2013 at 10:17 AM. |
