Mountain biking is a good one, but pretty expensive to get into.
R/C cars also fun, but a major money pit especially if you go nitro. Wood or metal working requires tools but you can make a lot of cool stuff. You could get a headlamp and try caving or spelunking. I've never done it, but it sounds fun.

+1 to all the skydiving comments. There is so much to learn, and so many ways to fly your body. There is nothing like hanging out in free fall in a formation with your friends.
I've got about 200 jumps under my belt, and I'm just getting started. Many of my friends have done 5000+ jumps, and are still learning new things. |

Average is about $2 per 1000ft for licensed jumpers. A typical full altitude lift ticket is $25.
It'll cost about $6k average to get started (license, gear, etc). This is easily the best $6k I have ever spent, in terms of joy per dollar spent. |

No to caving if you're big- in either way.
I'd say if you're taller than 6' 2" just no. Also I'd rather die having a blast falling from the sky than in a hole somewhere... but hey! That's just me.

Get lots of good lights and google caves--there will be some speleological group near you. It's a very good bonding thing to do, as is climbing. Get certified as a scuba diver...there are places to dive around here...not too exciting, mind you, but it's fun. Drift snorkel the Delaware. Set up along the River north from the last exit off 80 before PA...drive up a few miles...get out your chairs...walk up river and snorkel down. I once saw a 5' striped bass in 6' deep water...about 2' in front of me! Eels, bullheads, clams...right there, about a third of your X-mas feast! ...and now, take gf to a different museum each week, see how many you can have sex in...hike in local state park...extreme couponing...lots of fun stuff to do! lol

Unlicensed expect to pay anywhere from $200-275 per jump unless you get a group discount. I think I got away with $150 for my first jump but we had a group of 15 people.

So, the cost per jump goes way down if a person is licensed? Interesting....never knew that.

Exactly. Granted, you're spending more on the front end just to get licensed, but after that it's incredibly cheap to jump. I've had a sheet of paper in my wallet since my first jump that outlines all the jumps and costs to get licensed; it's on the list to do before I get married.

Hmm
I will look for one of those groupon type deals or just gather up enough people to do it ($150 sounds very reasonable) [bimmerapp]
