I have to recommend you steer away from the crv. My girlfriend has one and its a pile. Gets 19 mpg tops in the city. Like 21 highway.
What year is hers? My buddy has an 07 and it runs like a champ! We take it to Tahoe every year and hasn't had any major issues whatsoever. Gas is about 18-20 city

01. I mean its ok. But I wouldn't ever buy one. And neither would she. It was given to her.
I did a tune up on it and it didn't help much at all with mpg.

We took a 400ish mile trip this summer and it got 21 highway which is just awful for anything. My 328 gets 34 highway.

We also have a 4runner. It's the v8 limited. It gets 16-18 mixed. So not great. Not sure what the v6 gets

I do like the golf tdi. A lot. But if he's driving long distances get the Lexus. I'd recommend getting a gs is he could because its a real Lexus not a fancy yoda. But the es is nice regardless.

Yeah the 2001 was part of the first chassis I believe and were notorious for their bad tranny problems. Not sure what their run was? Late 90's to early 00?

It also hasn't had any major issues. It's just the little things that piss me off and make me realize its a cheap car. Wind noise. Silver "chrome" peeling from the inside door handles. Fake cardboard carpet. Everything feels REALLY small. Only one armrest. Plastic EVERYTHING feels like it will fly off the road at 75 mpg. Buzzy engine.
All that can be expected from a cheap economy car. Only problem is it doesn't even get good gas milage. So you're compromising for no gain.

Yeah. To 2001 I believe. Tranny does have so weird shift points. Feels like it has 80 horsepower too

Chase, interestingly enough I'm beginning to think about getting another vehicle with similar goals in mind. I'll still have the M3 to tinker with and track, so I want something bigger to haul people and gear around and more comfortable to do the 10 hour road trips that I'm going to need to do in the next few years. (The M3 has race spec linear springs and solid bushings... DD able, but just barely)

I've always liked the early-2000's era Pathfinders and 4Runners, but they're all getting older and accumulating quite a few miles. Like I said, I have the M3 to fix so I don't want two project cars. Maybe I should begin to consider the 2004ish+ 4Runners since they're newer.

4runner.

They hold value extremely well. And reliable.

They are powerful though so gotta be careful.

We just bought an x3 so our 05 4runner is now for sale. Barely dropped in value over the years lol.

How is the handling? I'm pretty sure its very truck like. However, my friend's 2002 Pathfinder is surprisingly car like to drive...

My dad just picked up a certified 2011 ford fusion SEL for 17 grand. Great car; fun to drive, efficient, powerful, comfortable, good looking.
