I think I could do 10-12, shoulder width/palms facing towards me with proper form (full lock, no kip).
Palms facing out? Less than that, lol

It's one of those things that I always reverse for some reason. I've been doing both of them since highschool fitness tests, and I still screw it up, lol
I can do 6-10 pull ups if I'm fresh.

I give the guy credit, but after about rep #11 (..and actually about rep #9), he started that half-assed kip stuff that I was referring to. He wasn't very strict! Good effort on his part though. He can pull more than most.

I ripped off 15 strict wide grip midway through my workout yesterday, definitely had more in me. I'll see what I can do when I'm fresh tomorrow, and see if I can get someone to videotape it.
I've always been a freak when it comes to pullups. Broke most of the records in school, most of them still hold. Last edited by Silversixspeed; 01-22-2013 at 11:56 AM. |

Pull ups are the one workout where one rep it is easy and the very next rep is impossible.

At the end of my back workout last night I got 6. But few weeks ago when I did pull-ups the first workout I got 17. The last few reps I pause longer at the bottom to regain some strength. A couple months of ago I remember doing 21. I need to eat more.
And no this was not on assisted smith pull-up machine lol |

Not true! There are various types/levels of strength and fitness, and we generally admire/appreciate the full range. Although this is a general fitness sub-forum, we do tend to focus on discussions about weight lifting. However, we also have plenty of body weight/calisthenics discussions. It would be safe to say that we all hang around people who perform pull-ups, but that doesn't make 20+ any less impressive. Most average/above-average males are not yanking 20+ pull-ups strict (..emphasis on the word in bold), and most of your well above average females are not pulling 20+ strict either. Even some of the most competitive men/women I've ever come across cannot do it without kipping (..which is still impressive for a woman by any means), but there are some out there. Out of curiosity, any videos of you pulling 20+ with strict form. I'd like to see it just for the sake of credibility. This chick did well though:

I'll take a video on Friday morning when I do the 300 workout and the goal is to get to 50 pull ups in as few sets as possible. At the end of the day, I would far prefer to get 8-10 STRICT pull ups that were done nice and slow, controlled, flawless form then 20 fast uncontrolled kipping momentum assisted pull ups.

Muscle-ups are a momentum movement (..much the same as a kipping pull-up). M3Inline6 is NOT impressed.
<---FREAK! T-minus 30 minutes until I'm tossing around some weight.
