Air Filter question: Before and after

My Air Filter and my cabin filter where done today. I got an oem cabin from turner and opted for the KnN drop in. This is what the old ones looked like and the new air filter came with an adhesive border to put on the border of the air box but... It didn't fit... The filter that came out didn't have one of them to remove and the new filter dropped in and fit perfect but I thought it was odd that the square ring didnt fit the box right and was wondering if it was even needed? The filter fit perfect and the box closed and sealed just fine

Just to make sure.. the gasket that comes with the KnN goes to the top part of the air box (the cover)... I just did this, so either you got the wrong filter or you're trying to put the gasket on the bottom half of the air box.....

Got it! Fits perfect. I watched an e46 DIY vid on you tube and it went on the bottom
