I'm on the east coast, this thread jump started my workday yesterday.

I agree about rethinking it. I'm a sucker for how the X5 drives, but you pay a lot, have a high cost of ownership, and not a lot of utility. At least get an e70, preferably with the 6 and not the v8.

Ill check e70 prices
But I have a feeling they will be way out my budget, Canada BMW prices are crazy high compared to ur guys nice prices
I'm buying an 09 E60 M5 at the end of the year possibly as well
So my wife will be driving the vehicle we're picking right now more anyways

And you still get to use real oem. And the MPG in the 3.0 is decent as well with good power. I would recomend it.

Edit** Also the 4.4 doesnt really have that much more power over the 3.0 and for its fuel consumption, I don't think it would really be worth it. Just my 2 cents.

Plus your already more or less familiar with the 3.0 and imagine not as familiar with the 4.4.

So let me get this straight..

1. You're worried about maintenance and gas mileage.
2. An e70 is out of your budget..
3. Yet you might be buying an E60 m5, and an 09 nonetheless.

But anyway, a 4.4 and 3.0 will get basically the same mileage. The 3.0 is under powered for the x5 and has to work much harder. 4.4 engine was used in other cars such as the 740 and 540i and range rovers.

I would buy a honda pilot with navi and leather and call it a day.

i'm not worried about gas mileage, sorry if i typed that in here somewhere
as for E70 it's 23+gz here and i only wanna spend 13gz
do not want 3.0l either as you stated they are under powered

as for the E60 that will be "my" car.
wife will be taking the X5 (if purchased) and getting rid of her Jeep so i only wanna spend 13gz, i need to make sure i'll still have money towards the E60.

The Acura is going to be much more reliable than the other two. Keep in mind that Acura is Honda.

we decided to put off on some of the E60 M5 savings so we now have 22k which opens us up to '07 E70 3.0's
we've found 2 (fully loaded) for 23k so i'm sure they will have no prob taking 21-22k
i really wanted the 4.8 but there are very few for sale here and cheapest one being 25.9K and i can't get anymore cash, 22k is my max

anyone know if 3.0 is worth getting or should i save some $$ and go with '06 4.4 or 4.8 (if i can find any)?
only thing i've heard about them i don't like is the power to weight ratio isn't the greatest and after test driving an E53 4.4l i think i might be disappointed in the E70 3.0.

was posting when u put this up so i didn't see it

because we were able to pick up a little more cash flow we did look at some 07, maybe 08 MDX's, kinda like the tech package but wife really likes the X5's now.
i think more because of the status
if we can't come up with an X5 we will most likely fall back on the MDX
anyone know if the Tech package is the same as the older Touring package?

The 3.0 is a much better engine than the v8s. It gets better mileage and isn't "underpowered" for a wife's car. The Honda Pilot suggestion is a good one as well.

we will be using it several times in the summer to do a 4hr trip that includes going up, down and through a mountain range, will it have enough torque.
a canadian mountain if that matters haha jk
roads are paved, nothing off road just parts of it are fairly steep and my 325i kinda bogs going up it.
i'd hate to get rid of the V8 Jeep (not really) that is a POS but can climb mountain without any issues for something wayy more under powered.

as for the Subaru.. those are nice, i went in one of the little hatchback turbo guys and it was crazy fast but wife def wants an SUV

It's Here

Yesterday we finally found and picked up the new vehicle
it is.....

2007 BMW X5 3.0Si Alpine White
Sport & Tech Packages
vehicle is mint with new tires, brakes and all lubes topped
today we did notice two common E70 problems however
top cover of glove box is warped so it will not auto open, the dealer we bought from (not BMW) booked us an appointment and will have it fixed
also have some thin vinyl like material on the steering wheel peeling off, seems to be a protectant possible, have to take pic's of that and message him.
carpets, seats and everything are mint as if it was fresh off the lot

still wish my wife went with the V8 4.8L but she didn't really care about that and really wanted a white one.

wife held it for hostage yesterday so i didn't get a chance to test it out until this afternoon... i'm very impressed with it being a 3.0L and all. has a nice amount of options too

Thanks to the ppl who suggested looking at the E70's even tho i thought i couldn't get one.

here are couple pic's we took earlier

Bonus Pic from when we pulled in last night right after picking up the X5 (e46 content )
*sorry about the messy garage, in need of better weather for a spring clean haha*
