To update this thread with a few additional items.

A newer entry into the ODBII interface world is Automatic https://www.automatic.com/

Appears to be a Bluetooth OBDII adapter that is more geared toward Fuel Economy but does have Trouble Code capability and has a number of other features that may be of interest to drivers based on the App. Interesting this Bluetooth interface appears to interface with Iphone 4S and newer? I also assume this interface may be able to be used along with other OBDII Apps but I have not confirmed this.

Another Android based App that is probably the cheapest at $3.95 is TouchScan https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ouchScan&hl=en. This app is offered from OCTech and is a cousin of the PC program OBDWiz. I do not have any first hand experience with TouchScan yet, but it appear the in App graphing is better than Torque Pro.

If I get a chance I am be able to get my hands on TouchScan and provide more feedback, but for $3.95 I think it is a very good competitor to Torque Pro.

I just saw on the ScanTool.net website there is a new OBD2 interface called OBDLink MX WiFi that works with Windows, Android, and iOS. It's currently discounted for pre-order and is supposed to start shipping this month.

Recently purchased the Creader VIII at amazon I went through the registration and update process, and then ran into the problems discussed on this thread.

I found that the Creader sold by Autointhebox through Amazon is manufactured by Launch, in Senzhen China. The CRP129, which is said to be the same (see the Amazon page) except it's red, is sold through Launch Tech USA, a subsidiary of Launch. The CRP129 also costs about $100 more. Launch Tech USA will not support the Creader VIII.

I discovered the serial numbers for the Launch Tech USA CRP129 start with 96489 and the Launch Creader VIII start with 96649.

The Creader VIII read all codes and worked well on an 03 Mini, but I have not been able to get it to work through the 20 pin DLC on the e46s, e36s or e39.

Still working with it though but thought you all might be as confused as I have been over the differences.

Thanks to jfoj for all of the time you have put into this thread and others on the obdii._nr_

Yes, I have heard that there are some issues with how Launch will not support tools that are not destine for the US market. Not exactly sure how and why Launch does this, but probably to stop the importation of cheaper tools and bypassing the US distribution chain??

Here is my recommendation, you might be able to call Launch Tech in the US, their support is pretty good. See what they say and are willing to do if anything. If they will not support the tool, suggest you get with Amazon, they usually have a very good return policy and if they have a vendor selling tools in the US that cannot be supported, then Amazon should address this with the specific vendor and hopefully provide you a full refund.

As for not being able to use the 20 pin DLC port under the hood, some of the 20 pin to 16 pin adapters are not pinned out correctly. I do not think this is a problem with the Launch tool if it works fine cars 2001 and later that do not have the 20 pin DLC port under the hood.

There is a different pin on the 20/16 pin connectors for other modules other than the DME and this signal needs to be specifically ported/connected in the 20 pin adapter cable otherwise you will only get DME data.

Overall I like the Launch Tech tools for the bang for the buck and features, but I still use my smart phone Apps and ELM327 interfaces for a lot of the daily needs as well.

I use bmwhat app with e46 and Android.

It's the only app I know of reading and clearing real manufacturer dtc codes for BMW. They do coding and programming too, but I've focused more on the diagnostic side.

That's probably what makes it more expensive than torque, which I use for gauges. Super stable connection.

Anyone else having problems with the torque app not connecting to elm327 adapter on their android phone? I've used apps such as dash command and obd2 doctor and they connect just fine. I want to be able to use torque because the interface look awesome. I'll check out that bmwhat app.

Hmmm, that looks interesting; like a smartphone version of PASoft 1.4. I will test the BMWhat app with both my WiFi and BT adapters on iPad and Android and see what's up.

I tried the BMWhat app on an iPhone a while back. it doesn't support the E46 and most other cars build before 2007.

OBD Software and Interface $22.16

Hi,

I'm not sure that's true. It's pretty sad, that they haven't managed to do coding with iPhone pre07 yet. But diagnostics work flawlessly with iOS for models before as well as after 2007

It is called Automattic, and I own one. It is a cute tool, more like a FitBit for your car. It is also really irritating if you have a stick. It "scolds" you for certain driving behavior, including fast starts and too much driving above 70MPH. Unfortunately, my 330ci triggers a fast start (from complete stop) virtually every time I leave an intersection, unless I baby it absurdly. Gets old

It is not a code reader. Yes, it has a feature for it, but it can never seem to actually get the code. My BMWhat got 21 codes, Automattic just said "engine light on"

It is fun for knowing how many miles you drive in a week, and keeps a sort of driving journal.

BMWhat only supports e46 using Android and a USB cable with USB-OTG. Sounds worse than it is. Restrictions on serial connections with iPhone make coding impossible from iPhone.

You can use Android/Bluetooth if you just want to read codes, but you need their cable to set it. Yes, it adds up, but I own it, and it is a great app.

They'll introduce a new Adapter For wifi which will make it possible to Do codings with Cars before 2007. this will be in the coming months, avid, One of the developers, wrote me.

Coding For E Models on iOS with the current wifi adapter works perfectly.

My tests of BMWhat Lite app on iPad and Android with both WiFi and BT OBD2 adapters resulted in it not being able to read the ECUs, just as I expected.

Next I will get the USB-to-microUSB adapter, plug it into my Android phone and my K-line cable (which works with INPA, WinKFP, etc.) and try it. That should work.

Stay tuned...

Please do me a favor and start a specific thread for the BMWhat App.

The information is clouding this thread and will get lost in here.

Just bumped the thread at http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...ghlight=bmwhat

Looks like as good a place as any for BMWhat discussion.
