Why? Just get a real M3 and be done with it. Nobody likes a poser.

Depends and in the end your prob gonna spend more money and then the time and frustration. If you wanna go all the way your gonna need Fenders, wheels, bumper, hood, trunk, lights, seats, exhaust, side grills and then in the end you still wont have a true m3 just a copy

If you want a sedan, sell 323 and buy a ZHP.

You can't exactly buy an E46 M3 sedan.

The answers are available on a sticked post in this forum.

Also, the fact that you are asking blindly with zero baseline knowledge is a big indicator that you may not be ready for such a large project.

Sorry for all the sarcasm, but we are trying to keep you from screwing up. You would spend more on parts alone trying to do this than it woud cost you to buy a pretty nice M3. An S54 alone is going to cost you $5000.

JeppeJ is the only person who has done this right... if you haven't seen this thread, read it.

The cost will far outweigh what your car costs. It will also be much more expensive than trading your car in and buying a $15-$20k M3.

Not accurate. Several others have done complete sedan-S54 builds - of note, MITE46 and Cyberkaa. Rogue also did a touring-S54 build.

that's an engine swap. OP is talking a full M3 conversion. there wouldn't be much of the original car left.

OP.. Instead of spending over 10 grand to make a fake car, rebuild literally fking everything in your engine. Get a bunch of Dinan mods, take care of every aspect of maintenance, get coilovers, rims, redo your cooling system, all gaskets and seals, rcabs ftabs, make your car run perfectly instead of making your car a poser. You will be so much happier in the end.. And to answer your original question

Probably 3 - 4k in body parts
1k in suspension
4k for a good s54 motor
1k for the interior
1k in exhaust and extra things you will need like mounts and all that.
Probably another 3k in labor for a shop to do it.

So your looking at almost 15k.

The wiring from the engine swap is where most people will get hung up.

If he wants a sedan, that doesn't get him to his goal. If hes ok with a coupe, then yes, that's the better route.

There are two types of people who want to do M3 conversions:

1) Capable people who want something that doesn't exist like an E46 M3 sedan or wagon.

2) People whose parents bought them a 323, but what they really want is an M3 because it's totally bad arse and all the kids at high school will be like damn yo is that an m3 you must be balling lol yolo
