I'll leave this here and never come back.

M3 hood: $500 for used or $700 for CF, or ~$1000 for top notch CF
M3 Fenders: Two used fenders in decent shape $400. Two fenders in good shape $600.
M3 Panels or whole rear body will cost you almost the same, $900 if you get a good deal otherwise $1200+
M3 Front Bumper: $400 for new front m3 rep with m3 fitment, $300 for good used oem m3
M3 Rear Bumper: $300 or you might get it as a package with rear body end
M3 Misc (missing bolts/nuts, new plastic pieces, replacement parts, etc, turn signals, grills): Expect it to be up to $600
New wheels (optional): depends but around $1000 if you get good deal
Trunk (optional): $600
M3 exhaust: Depends but I can get m3 exhaust for $300 in good condition.
Welding + bodywork: around $2500 if done in shop; $200 if you have a welding machine and someone who can weld the parts
Paint: $2000 for repaint or maybe $1000 for painting where bodywork was done

As of now I have spend around $3500 only on parts and welding. Paint and bodywork not included. Also not included exhaust, and misc parts.
I am looking forward spending another $1500 just to prepare it for painting.

If you wanna do the engine then you will be spending $4000 on engine only.

Cheers

First of all, it is "through", not "threw". If you want to make a point, then sound intelligent.
Secondly, this was not a request for help. He wanted us to do all of the work for him. He obviously has not looked up a single thing. He has the same problem some others seem to have - they thing that this is a service, and we are just waiting here to do all the research, and hand it to him. It does not work that way. If he had approached it differently, the responses would have been different.

i just wanted to know if it would be a great idea or not, didn't say i was going to do it. No need to hate on the post for posting a such thing. If its a bad idea tell me its an bad idea and not hate on it.

but to the ones that have been respectful, would an M3 engine fit in an 323i?

It's a MAJOR project. Is it a bad idea? No. Correctly converted sedans and wagons are awesome. Is it a bad idea if you don't have either the money or skill? YES.

Yes, it will fit. Yes, it is expensive and complicated. Yes, the S54 has been successfully transplanted into non-M's by quite a few members. As others have mentioned, MITE46 pioneered it.

There are quite a few in-depth threads on the swap. Search for them. The reason people have been less than friendly is because it's 100% obvious you did absolutely no research before creating this thread. You're not the first one to have this idea. Before you get the urge to make a new thread, hit the search button instead.

Your best bet is to supercharge. Superchargers for E46's are very affordable now.

At this point, the only thing that can be said is: search.

Really, guy? Do you comprehend anyones responses, or does it just drift through your head?

SEARCH. You will need WAY more than just the engine.

It can be done...if you have the coin and lots of time. I won't say that it hasn't crossed my mind. Beautiful end result!

Fastsoup, thanks for posting the link. That build is outstanding and would motivate anyone to own a sedan and I've never wanted a sedan.

|| It's always the 325 guys - I know we are all typing here but please use punctuation, that run on sentence is horrible. It makes it sound like you are an idiot.....we all know you're really not because you said "Bro."
