D600 images not supported in CS5??

so about two years ago, I get CS5.

now I bought a new camera- the Nikon D600- and learn that when I shoot in RAW, CS5 will not support the files to view or edit.

rather I have to purchase CS6. I have no desire or need for CS6 as I've been perfectly happy with CS5. But in order to use photoshop I need to now get CS6??

Before I make the plunge and waste more money- (after just spending the money on the new camera) is there other suggestions out there?

I just downloaded the Adobe DNG converter- which converts Nikon's NEF files into DNG files, which I can edit out CS5.

This process however is annoying and takes awhile. (unless I'm doing it wrong) Is there a faster way?

Also am I loosing anything in image quality, when the file is converted to DNG.

I don't have a D600 but I'm in this group. Check here

Another option is buying Lightroom 4 I know you don't want to spend more money right now. That's what I did because I dropped a lot CS4 before CS5 came out.

One of the most frequent questions on photography forums I think lol!

You just need to go to Adobe's site and download the most recent version of "Camera RAW" and install it, it will support the latest camera bodies!

Unfortunately that is not the case, the latest version of camera raw is only for cs6. It's like version 7.3 or something.

7.3 isn't compatible with cs5. I think cs5 only goes up to camera raw 6.7.

Basically because the camera came out after cs6 was released adobe won't support it for cs5........

I agree with 328iguy by this being the most common question. Adobe doesn't update thei RAW for previous versions. I can't read Raw files for my D90 unless I download some plug in for it. I mean its one feature that they won't include.

Yeah most asked question..

When I get my D600 I'm gonna have to update my LR. I'm trying to catch it when I have a staples rewards for $10 off along with 15% off. Maybe purchase CS6 and Lightroom which I use most. Maybe u can try that. I recycle my ink at Staples. The most I get back is $10-12. Then if you can catch when they have 15-20% off on purchase. Or check when B&H photo or Adorama has PS6 on sale.

I never get into the technical stuff really. But if you say RAW you are referring to NEF (nikon raw) and DNG (computer RAW) right? And basically the file is converted to DNG because that's a type of universal RAW file? Right? Its simply a converter.

this is what I found after googling
