Rape victims and tampering with evidence

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...n_2541894.html

A Republican lawmaker in New Mexico introduced a bill on Wednesday that would legally require victims of rape to carry their pregnancies to term in order to use the fetus as evidence for a sexual assault trial.
You can't make this stuff up!

Why wouldn't they just test for DNA?

Because testing for DNA won't force women to carry a fetus to term.

House Bill 206, introduced by state Rep. Cathrynn Brown (R), would charge a rape victim who ended her pregnancy with a third-degree felony for "tampering with evidence."
And it's a woman....

There are mental midgets in both parties.

It says as much about the constituents that re elect them every two years as much as it says about the Representatives.

Example........Jesse Jackson Jr did not show up for work from May through November. They say it was depression, maybe it was related to his legal problems. He had multiple felony charges against him, but he was still re elected with 75 +/- percent of the vote.

Brown said in a statement Thursday that she introduced the bill with the goal of punishing the person who commits incest or rape and then procures or facilitates an abortion to destroy the evidence of the crime.
If in fact the bill is written with specific enough language to confine the chargeable offense to the rapist and to this specific situation, then there's probably something worth discussing in it.

If there was any degree of thoroughness to the article, it would help decide if Browns statement is or if the author of the article ignored the real purpose of the bill in order to write a sensational and inflammatory story.

Trust a politician or trust a reporter. What a tangled web we've woven.

Brown tried to sly through some half- (quarter? 1/20th?) bill to implement some clumsy anti-abortion measure under the sheerest guise of being an anti-crime measure. Ridiculousness of the whole painfully obvious scheme of course blew up in her face and she immediately tried to back-peddle the whole stupid idea before too much more damage was incurred. This is almost farcical it is so foolish -- remember that recent VA transvaginal ultrasound bill that got howled down and probably torpedoed VA Gov. McConnell's chance at the VP slot?

Honestly, has the GOP hired some out of work The Onion or Wonkette writers to serve as policy advisers?
