Best way to clean ear wax?

I got some stuff / ear wax in my ear and can not seem to take it out.
Unfortunately cotton swabs is not working, if anything heard its worse for your ears because it pushes the ear wax further in your ear canal.

I was thinking of seeing an ear doctor, or perhaps do a do-it yourself ear cleaning method like this youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=KmAXWg2Rjh4

The video looks pretty nasty and dont like the idea of shooting water in my ear. Any suggestions on how to take the gunk out?

Hydrogen peroxide flush or have an ENT doc remove it with instruments

yea I used to have someone put peroxide in my ears like once a month. I forgot all about that. When you get it out you seem to be able to hear a little clearer. Could be because your ear was just drowning though.

There're little drops you can buy that will dissolve the wax in your ear. I don't know what it's called.

LOL

You can buy ear wax removal fluids at grocery stores, drugstores, Target, etc.

You lay on your side, put some drops of the stuff into your ear, let it sit in there for 5 min or so, and then tilt your head to drain it out. It's not a one-and-done thing, IIRC you do it twice a day for like 3 days. Most of the OTC kits come with a little squeeze bulb that you use to gently squirt warm water into your ear afterwards to rinse them.

As JJ mentioned, you can use hydrogen peroxide, which is the main ingredient in the OTC stuff anyway and is cheaper. Mineral oil works, too. You can also just use warm water.

Aside from earwax "overproducers," who can benefit from a professional cleaning a few times a year, doctors say the average person should not require ear cleaning unless the wax is causing bothersome symptoms or impeding a doctors' ability to examine the eardrum.

If I remember and plan ahead, I do mine before I go on a scuba trip to lessen the chance of having seawater trapped in my ear by a little blob of wax. But the rest of the time, I just leave them alone. I don't use earplugs or earbuds that much, though.

Q-tips aren't supposed to go into the ear canal, because, as you said, they simply shove the wax in further.
