How many of you have a broken sun/moonroof?

Ive noticed a big thread on the DIY forum wrt the broken rails on many e46 sunroofs. I have the same problem, and wanted to know who else out there has this issue via a poll.

Broke twice, previous owner quoted $200 to fix clips and rails by dealer.

Doesnt bother me, it slide back and forth freely.

Mine broke in October 04 and was covered by the dealer, needless to say they broke again in October 05 and I have yet to get it repaired. I wonder if my extended warranty will cover it?

Mine broke a couple months ago and I get it fixed under warranty. It still gets stuck on tilt about half the time. It also squeeks sometimes.

Mine broke as well and I have CPO. Anyone know if this is covered under CPO? Has anyone been successful at it?

Yes it's covered under the CPO warranty. If it's not your fault and it isn't a wear and tear part it's covered. Good things it is under warranty because it was over $1000!

It's a common problem on all bmw 3-series sunshade cover. I have mine broke last 4 months ago and was fixed under warranty. It's a bad design IMO, BMW should find a permanent fix and do a recall. I know the E90 is still practically new, I wonder if they encounter the same problem that we having.

Dude, you forgot to add the option "it's never broken" since now you don't have anything to compare it to other than other models with the broken clips. I'm sure that all models have similar clips depending on the model year.

My Sunroof has never broken. But if you asking about the Sunshade panel, yes that has broken before. I fixed it myself from the DIY Forum and cost was under $20. Very easy to do, works so great now.
Your POLL is worded poorly. It doesn't give a choice for NO, it just asks for your model and I figured it would ask Yes/No then. Kinda funny.

its not the actual sunroof that breaks, but the sunshade cover, right? and thats easily fixed with the clips.

Be warned if you take your car in to South Bay BMW (in southern California). They quoted me $350+ claiming that the motor was broken. BS. The motor works fine. The only thing is that the rails broke off the track.
