E46 325i Halogen to HID upgrade.

Hi, I've got a 2002 E46 325i and I'd like to upgrade to HIDs.

I'm currently looking at these. http://www.amazon.com/2002-2005-Blac.../dp/B005EM8BAK
I don't know if anyone has any experience with them or anything.

Also I don't know if there is any DIY for it, I keep finding "retro" fitting ones but I'd rather just do a plug and play.

Cheers.

If you want "plug & play" go OEM. You won't find anything close in the aftermarket arena. Depo is the closest one and everyone here says they still suck. Your best bet is the retrofit for I believe around $200

This is exactly what you should do if you want decent pj's

otherwise go OEM

Couldn't you find some off a wrecked E46 and use them?

Whichever brand you choose you will need to install projectors. Those little TRS projectors you mentioned at the start work well although there is still a bit of reflector cutting. There are many many threads covering this and there are many projectors which give a better result than the OEM items. Once you go HID you won't want go back to 'ordinary' halogens again.
Don't be tempted to do the H7 HID replacement. Also the 4300ēK does work out best.

If you want plug and play HID, the easiest route (and best quality, by far) is to source a set of used OE lamps. You won't likely find both sides in the same place, but figure roughly the same money as the units in your link. Installation is 30 mins. Your dash indicator may light up until you get a recode (from a dealer, indie, or list member), but the lights will work just fine.

This is expensive...if you're gonna spend this much might as well get an oem bi xenon projector headlight....

You do realize you bought a BMW. If you want cheaper options buy a Civic.

But yes, retrofit will be cheaper.

I'm fully aware that I bought a BMW, friendo. Ironically, I traded in an 06 civic sedan with 20,000 more miles than my Bimmer, as an even trade. $500 just seemed steep from other things I've read here. Should have said "aren't" instead of are in my initial post.

Thanks, I've decided to do the retro fit. I'll post up my results when I'm done.
