Exclamation Acceptable internal oil burn?

The car is a 2002 325Ci manual transmission. 168,000 miles. Runs good. Still does 30 miles/gal on long drives.

I add 1quart of synthetic oil every 1000 miles.
Weighing the expense of repair vs. cost of maintaining the car this way, adding oil seems sensible.

However I want to know where this problem is headed. And what needs to be fixed. Please advise. Thank you.

My 328 has 194k and doesn't use any oil at all, but saying that all the audi and BMW,s I've had all said in the handbook that using 1 liter of oil every 1k was normal
