E70 X5 4.8i vs RR Sport SC

Hey guys.

I might be buying a 4wd to add to the collection. So far i've been considering: X5 V8, RR Sport SC, RR Vogue SC, Porsche Cayenne S & Turbo & Audi Q7. I must add that whatever i choose must be a V8 and not diesel.

I'm trying to decide between 2007/2008 X5 E70 V8 or Range Rover Sport Supercharged 2006/2007, though that does not rule out any other types of 4wd's, like the vogue or cayenne turbo.

This is what i'm looking for:

Something reliable
Handles well
Will never be taken off road
Drives well

I've driven the RR Sport and i love it as it's a truck. I love the seating position (being up high).

The pros and cons i've heard is obviously the reputation regarding reliability with RR. I've heard the RR's are not reliable, have a sh*tload of electrical problems etc.

With the X5 i haven't heard much con's or seen much besides the fact that a lot of people have them. I see them everywhere.

What would you guys recommend?

I know the X5 is much newer technology wise compared to a RR Sport of the same year (2006-2008).

Inside a 2006 range rover feels like i'm sitting in a Ford, with all the plastic. With the X5 the interior is really nice. But, one thing the RR has on its side is the looks. They are superb.

Love to hear what you guys think.

That cayenne is a freakin beast! It's a high end SUV (just like all the others) that handles like a Porsche. I have a family member who just sold his 2006 Cayenne Turbo. It was so nice!

I've looked at some ML63's but can't find any with low km's in my budget. I'm looking for something with under 100 000k's.

My budget is about 60-65k max. That needs to include on roads, rego etc.

The ML63 would be at the top of my list if it was in my budget

BMW X5. Nothing can beat the sheer quality and driving pleasure of an E70 matched with class and finesse.

Yeah X5M is outstanding, though i can't afford it at the moment.

I've got a few toys and i need to add an SUV to the collection so it'll be out of the budget.

The year models in my budget for most of the SUV's would be from 2006 - 2008.

RR Sport Supercharged (2006-2008)
X5 4.8i V8 (2007-2008)
Porsche Cayenne Turbo (2006-2008)
RR Vogue Supercharged (2006-2007)
ML63 (2006 + is out of the budget)

They're the year models and cars within my budget.

So far the X5 is at the top of the list because of the handling, quality, reliability, power. I would love the ML63 but it's just not possible at the moment to find one with less than 100 00k's within budget. I'm looking for something around the 70 000km's - 90 000km's nothing over that.

A 2007 X5 V8 compared to a 2007 RR Sport SC technology is a huge gap. The X5 is just so technologically advanced compared to the RR SC. But once again the RR Sport is one hell of a good looking machine!

It's so confusing.

My father had an X5 V8. I drove it a few times, loved it. He never had any issues with it either. He ended up selling after a few years for a 135 and to do some house renovations.

Was it an E70?

Also, is it vital to have the Adaptive Drive as an option?

I've found a few X5's for good prices but they don't come with Adaptive drive.

They come with everything else, like heated seats, sensors, sports pack, panorama roof, 20" wheels etc. Just not Heads up Display or Adaptive Drive.

Any reason why it has to be the V8 X5 and not the Twin turbo diesel? You will be surprised how much power those TT diesel X5's have. Let's be honest these days no one is buying V8 X5's which is evident in the significant price drops on carsales frequently. My parents own the twin turbo diesel and my neighbour used to own the E70 V8 4.8i and has just traded that in for the E70 LCI 3.0d and he said that will be his last V8 ever because he finds the diesel X5 that much better. Keep in mind he owns the current RR Sport V8 diesel as well

Honestly, take a twin turbo diesel X5 for a test drive and let me know what you thought of it.

Unless you have shares in an oil company, why are you not wanting a diesel? Bucketloads of torque, less maintenance, better reliability and best of all they're economical.

I've been told that about the diesels, but i just don't really like them. To be honest they sound like tractors to me.

Yes they might be more economical with fuel, but that's something i'm not worried about.

How are they more reliable? And how is it that a diesel requires less maintenance?

I've considered them before, but i love the roar of a V8. Like i said before, if the ML63 was in the budget i would def go for that.

Don't buy a RR that's out of warranty, unless you have deep pockets. Stories about electrical are true

Recently replaced a drivers side seat which was 9k under warranty

Who and what will the car be used for? Your crazy going for petrol over diesel, we had 3 petrol RR before the TDV8 and its been easily the best mechanically

$9000 for a Range Rover sport seat? Wow.. That's crazy!

The car will be used as a daily driver. Won't be driven much, around 18k a year. Definitely no off roading. The occasional long trip (2000k's) every 6 months.

I would buy a TDV8 RR Sport because it's diesel and still a V8, so it sounds like a beast but i can't find any TDV8's with low k's in my budget.

The reason why i love the V8 is because of the sound especially with a Meisterschaft GT slapped on a 4.8 X5!

Im leaning towards the X5 V8 because of all the options and the new technology compared to its rivals.

With the Porsche i don't like the interior for the driver, the positioning of the GPS etc. With the RR Sport Supercharged, i love the seating position, the fact it's a truck but i'm worried about reliability issues/airbag suspension/electricals. The ML63 is out of budget The Q7 looks plain inside and looks like a station wagon from the outside. The RR Vogue SC in my price range are even worse than the RR Sport in regards to reliability, more expensive to fix and still use the old school type key lol.

2006-2007 RR Vogue SC. They still have the old key and old nav. The 2008+ had the update. But that's out of my price range. I would buy a 2008 in a heart beat!

There's a 2008 TDV8 RR Vogue with 190 000k's in my budget lol. But yeah i think the k's speak for themselves hahaha. That would be awesome, 2008 TDV8 Vogue.
