For me, personally its not worth the investment of time and money when going against those with deeper pockets and better platforms to start with.
A properly sorted E46 M3 can get deep into the low 200's in the mile.

I personally have taken my E36 M3 to 198.8 mph in the mile at 750 whp with NickG's tuning. I hit 198.9 mph at the 3/4 mile mark and rode the rev limiter the last quarter mile. I didn't have enough gearing or revs to go any faster. I fully believe that I would have done 210 with a 2.73. Another local shop took their E36 to 223 mph at a recent texas event.

With the same drag coefficient as the E36, the E46 could easily reach the 200 mph in the mile.

I believe that has been done already! Build threads are online.

I agree. Most of our turbo e46's would easily reach 200-210mph if gearing wasn't an issue.

Here is me against a Vette that did over 200mph in the Mojave mile, which due to altitude, would be a slower track than Texas.

Record right now for the standing mile is still 283mph right? In a 1700hp+ Ford GT? At this last event we saw a 2000hp Ford GT being tuned. I'm sure with longer gears, and a real dedicated individual being the pursuit we could see some good numbers, but I guess my point would be its no longer a 'weekend' event for a lot of the big dog participants .. they're building cars exclusively for this. There used to be a 200mph+ shirt.. I'm sure every car that participates these days tops 200mph.. pretty soon the club will be the 250mph+ club.. I'm just saying I personally wouldn't bother with an E46 if I was to get into mile racing, I'd start with a better platform for it. Drag racing is different, you're not racing cars across the board, you're generally racing others with the same make/model.. which I find to be more entertaining to watch.

Marcus, at the end of the day, its all about how happy you are with what you got. Isn't it?

Reasmbling the getrag is not a easy task, getrag won't sell replacement parts and very few people would dare to open them up. Nothings impossible, but its not easy or cheap. Most just swap out the final gear, that's why most standing mile cars aren't streetable... Or least the serious competitors. The ford gt at the last shift sector event had to be towed around by a golf cart due to the gearing.

Hopefully it will hold the power now. Also spoke with Michael over at ETS and they're planning on bringing some of their shop GTRs down. Should be a good time. So if you see a Montigo Blue e92 335 from Oregon, drop over to say hi.
Hey Wedge, it's going to be a lot of fun, good to see that you will be there!

6th gear upgrade is not common nor impossible, but will cost darn a lot.

I would use a 2,65 / 2,81 / 2,93 ring and pinion which will cost 400 $ maximum.

Looking at your numbers you have posted we should get together and race. Should be a good... Look forward to going... Winter has sucked and I'm ready to get my race on... PIR in Portland opened on Friday and I couldn't hook up to save my life. Actually run better vbox times on the street.

Does anyone have a spare guests/crew spot? I'm free that weekend and was planning to drive down and hang out for the day.
