How would you feel if your doctor walked in, saying: "Yo Mr. White, looks like that 5-FU inhibitor ain't doing so good on your lung cancer, we gotta step it up to some surgical sh!t before that sh!t spreads."

Since it came up, I'll just mention that when I teach business writing, I often encourage people not to use "i.e." It means "that is" or "in other words," so I say use the other words that explain what you mean clearly and get rid of what was unclear before the i.e. Of course, there are many cases where it's useful, but most of the time it isn't.
If I wrote "come to class prepared; i.e., bring pencil, paper, and a calculator," that would be proper, but I could have just said, "bring pencil, paper, and a calculator." "E.g." should only be used when you use an example. "There are many ways to participate in class; e.g., shut up and listen, bring the stuff you need, and ask meaningful questions." I won't otherwise go back and edit all the posts in this thread! This is the Internet, and I almost always understand what you mean, even if it's only vaguely English, and even if it's written on a phone and you have fat fingers. If someone wants to understand, they usually can. If someone wants to show you they're smarter than you, he or she can usually find a grammatical error, mock you for it, and show him or herself to be more knowledgeable, better educated, and a bigger jerk than you. Use the advantages you've had, but use them to lift yourself up with, not to knock someone down with...unless you're competing for the same woman...and even then....

If you working in finance/HR/business or something along those lines, the people you speak of with poor grammar are actually stupid. And yes I judge people by their grammar. There was some study (don't know where I saw it or its reliability) that said something along the lines of: a majority of people end up with someone with similar vocal skills. It also mentioned that they were comfortable texting with similar short hand.
