This is an odd question. You need to specify...

Do you not think you'll get enough hours to make what you need?

or

Do you think you'll be working more hours than you want?

You'll work 40 "book hours" a week or more. You'll get a mix of scheduled maintenance work and general repairs.

The best techs bill 80-100 hours per week (I used to do payroll at a stealer).

I worked in a BMW dealership. You work as many hours as you can during the scheduled times the shop is open. You can work as much as you want if the place is open. You have to remember you get paid based on the book hours, not the hourly wage you are there.

If you do a job that the book states takes 10 hours and you do it in 4, you get paid for 10 hours of work. This is how mechanics make decent money, they beat the book times and multi-task to make money.

I would say you do a good mix of everything. the mechanics don't just work on e46 cooling system upgrades all day. Tires, washes, oil leaks, SES lights, brakes, rusty exhausts, SES lights again.
Yesterday I watched a guy fixing the electric pusher for the rear hatch of an X6. Apparently when they fail the arm falls off the door and shoots a spring across the parking lot. haha
Anyways he had to take the whole C pillar apart to find the electrical connection. Looked like a decently annoying job.

Maybe your instructor has a false impression about the maintenance required for a BMW. There is undoubtedly enough work to keep you busy and many people take their car to a dealer rather than an indy shop.

Our guys work anywhere from 45-65hrs a week and see flat rate hours averaging 55-80 a week. Most the work that came into the shop was maintenance, very little was work out of warranty unless it was tire/alignment or a enthusiast who knew what they wanted.
