I must say I have lived in Boston/New England for 15 years and this is the craziest snow storm I have seen. Yeah there have been some big snow storms but not ones with wind like this.

2010 had over 73 inches of snow in the Philadelphia area.

Schools were shut down in "preparation" for the upcoming storm. States went into a state of emergency leading up to the actual time the storm hit. Roads were shut down as closed prior to the storm coming in. They're expecting 22 inches or something for this storm in places. I'm not referring to this guys video, but to the region as a whole.

I am well aware that equipment and resources in the area are not prepared to handle such an amount of snow in such a short period. However growing up we'd get a foot over night and roads would be cleared for the busses in the morning. I've been in a snowstorm of 55 inches over 24 hrs.

People should just calm down, not leave there house if they don't really need to, and just drink their way through the storm!

If you did fine, you either don't have real summer tires or it wasn't actually a blizzard. Pick one.

This. Total BS. A rwd BMW isn't going anywhere with summer tires in a blizzard. Hell there are Cayennes around my area going crazy with all season tires and 5" of heavy wet snow.

I even had some trouble with my full on Blizzaks in the "Snowmageddon" that happened 2 years ago here in Chicago, car was all over the place. I can't even drive out of my driveway on my summer PS2s if there's just 2 inches of snow, it has nothing to do with driving skills...

I know that because I know how tires react in different temps and weather conditions. Real summer tires turn to stone below 50 degrees. They will absolutely NOT grip anything in snow or ice. I cannot get up my driveway with my summers in the snow and my driveway has about a 2 degree slope.

And don't tell me it's from lack of skill. First of al, it takes no skill to go in a straight line and use throttle control. And I'm a damn good driver, especially in the snow.

Fact is, real summer tires DO NOT work in the snow. At all.

This snow isn't that bad, it's actually should be expected considering we are in winter season, living in the northern hemisphere and we have been missing out on it for a few years. Everytime it snows an inch or two, people panic because they forget what it feels like.

Ever notice that everyone complains about how hot it is during the summer? Same "catastrophe".

i dont understand why everyone is freakin out in ny about a foot of snow.

A few weeks ago we got a few inches down here in VA. S54+Michelin Pilot Super Sports+RWD = DSC working overload and I could barely get into 2nd gear. Summer tires =/= snowy conditions.

Edit: And like the poster above said, it has to do with the polymer structures (polybutadiene + whatever additives are added) of the different tires as well as tread pattern that contribute to how well they perform at different temps.

It's the snow + the wind + the flooding + the power outages.

It's rough out here, I work in a restaurant and they closed because no one was coming in, cheap bastards didn't care about their employees having to drive home in these conditions, thank god I decided to take the day off but I was out earlier today and an asswipe in a 370z wiped out a few feet from me, I'm sure he had summer tires on the asshole, moral of the story is that I have a dedicated set of winter tires and they are worth every penny, my last thought: how can you own a rwd bimmer in jersey and not have winter tires!
