why is buying new stupid? yeah, you get the huge initial depreciation hit, but it's kinda nice to have a car that no one else has fart in and sweat in for couple of years. i may be in the minority, but i kinda value that.

speed isn't everything. I'm in a similar predicament. It all depends on how much you drive.

I drive roughly 36k miles a year, which wouldn't make sense owning a 135i. The maintenance/reliability would destroy me.

BRZ makes more sense to me since its a much simpler car and I should expect to get a good number of years out of that car vs the bimmer.

I've never been in a Subaru that didn't sound like it was rattling apart. Every interior has looked like old carpet samples and recycled milk bottles. I have known three people who have recently owned new or newer Subarus, and all have had a lot of problems. If the car is "Toyota native", it may be better. If it's "Subaru native", well...maybe not.

With the 135i, you're getting a solid car with better build quality, and better potential IMO.

Likely not. The N20 motor in the 320i uses different pistons than the N20 in the 328i, and many companies are saying that they will not be able to boost it anywhere close to 300hp.
The base price of the 320i is $32,550. That is for a bare bones stripped down model. The 320i is an entry level model that really isn't all that great. Basically for people who just simply want to be seen in a BMW and don't care about the actual car, or people who are impatient and refuse to save up for the better 328i, but they can barely afford the 320i as it is.
It'd be better to get a new 128i for $31,200, as you'd get more for your money.

No, the 135 doesn't feel particularly light.

I would not take the BR-Z, and you and I usually agree. If you haven't driven it that explains the difference.

I had high hopes for the BR-Z. It has a very nice chassis. But the car is slow, the motor isn't even playful in power delivery, and I was disappointed.

It feels even slower than its numbers suggest. It does not feel faster than a manual 325 from the driver's seat- though it may be just by a bit.

The 135i is not a particularly light car. You can feel it's heft in different situations. Now if the BRZ came turbocharged from the factory that car would have been a completely different animal. It has a solid chassis and superb handling and is pretty damn light. The power just isn't there
