1. Install driver's floor plate DONE
2. Remove front carpet on pass side DONE
3. Install pass floor plate DELETE
4. Remove curtain airbags
5. Remove washer resorvoir and linesDONE
6. Install V1 hardwire (yes, still will drive this to the track)DONE
7. Install a lightweight and removable radio IN PROGRESS
8. Stoptech 355mm/4 wheel BBK and brake duct platesduct plates DONE
9. TMS Rear control arms and RTAB limiters DONE
10. Powerflex FCABs DONE
11. Front struts w/ camber platesDONE
12. Adjustable end linksDONE
13. Install UUC SSK and DSSRDONE

So there's the list. No more pics...nothing really exciting.

TC Kline saved me $430. I ordered the Vorshlag M3 camber plates for the TCK coilovers. Out of stock..waiting...called TC Kline (the actual guy) and he said it would work. And it DOES! It drives fine, about to get it aligned tomorrow. But I have plenty of camber just from eyeballing it. Awesome!

I did the RTABs, FCABs, drained the diff oil, replaced the hood cowl, and attempted the rear control arms. One thing I've noticed...you'll need to remove either 50% more bolts and a bunch more plastic covers on and M3 vs doing the same job on an 330.

When I did the FCABs.. WHAT A PIA! The bolt hole in the bottom of the housing didn't line up with the reinforcement plate. After trying to use a 3lb sledge to coax it into lining up, I busted out the step drill bit and made that hole line up. Then added a big washer for good measure. I AM professional! Lol. These were PF bushings already pressed into the housings.

So (hopefully) off to the alignment rack tomorrow. She MIGHT, I said MIGHT be on the track in 2 days!

Ok, BIG NEWS! The car will go on track tomorrow for the first time!

Here is what the brake fluid that came out looked like...

I've invented a new super lightweight glove box...

I assume 5spd for saving weight?
I don't quite understand hanging onto the stereo in a car that's this serious about weight loss.

Great build (or tear down in some cases )

I got to drive it on the street once in awhile. No stereo gets kind of old, with an extra 30 lbs.

Yeah, 5sp saves weight and is cheaper to fix/replace. 6th gear is useless on the track.

Here it is...first weekend on the track. No issues. The NTB alignment wasn't on so the rear felt quite twitchy through the faster turns. Unfortunately, that kind of hurts you pretty had at this track where most of the turns are pretty fast. But I can easily see with a little more setup work how the M3 in stock form will beat my 330's best of 1:57:32 at this track.

The first thing I need to do is dial out some of the -4.5 degrees of camber I have upfront. Then add a little more camber in the rear with some more toe in at the rear. I'm thinking about dropping the rear a little bit too.

It does look like the car got a bit squirrely! What's the one biggest difference you noticed between the M3 and the 330 this first time on the track with it?

Yeah, had way too much neg camber in the front...-4.5! This was just more of a dry run.

First, a lot less shifting with the 8k redline. The throttle is a lot more consistent and easier to modulate. Overall, it's just a lot better to drive.

I am off 8-9mph on the front straight but i can cut a lot of that difference once I get the car to be less oversteery. Plus, I was fighting a strong headwind. This car is every bit as capable as the 330...and no issues! I'll be topping my 330 personal lap records soon enough on stock power!

I just need to get the trail braking down in this car.

I've been thinking about the setup. I figure that the M3 stock is more nose heavy but its probably lighter than the 330 since it doesn't have 80lbs of extra crap over the front axle (supercharger, oil cooler, other crap). I'm going to drop down to -3.0 degrees of camber in the front. I will mark the plates and tie rods for street settings, -3.0, and -3.5 degrees of camber. I may also drop the rear height as well.

Sounds about right, both should help to to keep the rear end in check. Upping front rebound a bit may help as well in terms of modulating the trail braking. I'm living vicariously through you!

I've heard good things about CSL boots in terms of rear down force on the track. Maybe something you could consider?

I don't think they will make any difference other than some weight loss. If I were going with crap on fiber then I'd go with the hood. I need to start looking at ways to take weight off of the front axle.

Yes, I am the anti exposed carbon fiber guy.

Fair enough. I just remember someone on this forum saying that he noticed a difference on the track and even cut down his lap times so thought I would just pass the info on. Can't remember who it was though.

Anyway, awesome project man!

Update.

I got a stereo installed! Tunes, YAY! Now, getting the rear refreshed and hopefully (if there's time) reinforced. New front diff seal, solid subframe mounts, 6 new control arm bushings, adj control arms and maybe diff mounts. Holding off on the 4.10 for now...got more pressing things and I'm not sure...might go with a 3.91...might do a 5sp swap now and wait until I get a tow truck and trailer to throw in the 3.91 or 4.10...hard decisions.

Got some bad news. Did an oil analysis, it shows some bearing wear and it had 5w-30 in it. Good thing is I looked at the oil before changing it and it was golden in color so I assume it was new. So crossing fingers that this is the first 5w-30 oil change. The other bad news is it shows some bearing wear. The car runs fine...can't do anything but keep good fresh oil in it and keep doing the oil analysis. Engine runs fine, no noises so I'll just keep driving it. The plan was to start looking at buying a used engine in preparation for the inevitable over the next 1-2 years...might need to speed that up a little.

Last two tasks...alignment (-3.5 camber in front this time!) and BBKs. Then off to Motorsport Ranch for another track weekend.

Now to represent my sponsors, here's the first one...

awesome car, but tell your sponsor to pay a designer to make a logo that suit your car better.
