Alarm probably would have kept them out of my trunk since they had to crawl into the car just to get to that. And it just reminded me that I need to fix that back seat the latch has been broken but you can't even tell when its fully upright.

OP, that sucks and I hope insurance works out ok for you.

Its possible that your mods drew them in. I could see them thinking "ooh flashy car with trunk, roof rack, etc, this is the car in this garage that's most likely to have cool steal-able stuff inside" without knowing anything about you in particular.

Maybe keep an eye on CL for a used D60 for sale.

Never leave anything in the cabin of your car.

I know it sucks OP. A month ago my car was broken into as well. But they only managed to break the passenger window and the door handle. May be someone walked into them while doing that **** and they fled. Tint saved the glass from shattering and the handle bar was left there.

I replaced the window and put the handle bar back. Thankfully no other damage was done.

I have parked at the same spot for 2 years and this happened out of no where. I didn't go through the insurance because the damage was minimal. I don't leave anything in the car except for my cigerrates and lighter. I was lucky that nothing except the glass was damaged.

Hope your insurance covers everything.

Could this have been personal? Breaking into your car, which you say sat amongst many other cars which had more visible, valuable items?

On top of that- it was in a gated community. How does one gain access?

Lastly- you need to have a decent knowledge or cars to get the seats down in an E46 from inside the cabin. You basically have to wreck the speaker to get through that way. Ski pass has a latch that closes from the trunk.

Seems like a LOT of effort for a petty thief.

One gains access by waiting for someone to leave or enter the gate and then follow them. As far as being personal don't think so since I only talk to one person in the complex and he parks next to me and lives below me. Probably was some young punk ass kids thinking they are cool for breaking into cars and stealing ****.

Majority of the people who live in my complex are old people. The only kids I have ever seen around here are like kids younger than 8.

I'm pretty sure renters insurance will take care of this... Hopefully the documents in your bag weren't too sensitive... Good luck, lesson learned though, don't give thieves the opportunity and bring all your important things with you

They weren't that sensitive besides the fact that its my Page2 which has all of my info on it along with my dependent data.

That fvcking sucks. I remember walking out to my car one day and seeing the windows smashed and the radio ripped out. It's such a terrible/depressing feeling..

Surprisingly they left my stereo alone. But my Auto insurance is taking care of the windows and tint. It has been a pain dealing with both of them since its two different companies.

Yeah well at least everything will be taken care of. All you really have to worry about now is the information they got from/about you.
