I know I'm the native nancy in this thread, but when the ps3 came out they stopped making titles for the ps3 entirely. And they didn't make any ps2 titles available for play on the ps3.
It'll be a sad day when new titles are not available for the ps3. I know it's been 7 years but damn this thing still feels new.

Yeah with the potential of having to register a disc to a specific console it will also kill off the rental market as well.
My PS3 is used more as a media center than a gaming system. i game mainly on my PC. so i don't know if i'll upgrade.

Also, it has been discussed that Sony will stray from games being able to be played on more than one system, thus rendering the used market for PS4 games dead. Think of having to register the game to your specific system - once you do, you can't even take it to your buddy's house to play. Of course they could offer a 'pass' to be purchased that would allow you to register it to an additional system, but that hasn't been hinted at in the slightest.

Imagine GameStop with no used PS4 games and an extremely small floorset for new PS4 games. If Sony does this... they are basically saying 'fvck you, Gamestop, we want our money back." If that happens, GameStop would basically stop marketing Sony almost entirely.
I think Microsoft is going the same way on the 720. Gamestop's days are numbered if that's the case.

Sony filed a patent late last year that could mean the PS4 won't play used or second hand games. (see actual patent link below), describes "a game playing system [including] a use permission tag provided for use in a game disk for a user of a game, a disk drive, and a reproduction device for reproducing the game."

Essentially, this means that a device similar to an RFID or or near-field communication (NFC) tag built into the game disc would tie it to a particular console or console user.

Second-hand sales are a serious problem for the games industry - in some ways, even more so than piracy, with none of the money going to the publisher or developer. By blocking second-hand sales, Sony thinks that a high percentage of those who would have purchased the game second-hand will instead pay full price.

Many current generation games come with single-use codes that let the original owner download extra content, while digital distribution services like Steam, Xbox Live Arcade or the PlayStation Network tie purchases to a single user account.

Sony's proposed system goes significantly further: once a game disc is inserted into a console featuring the patented technology, it would be permanently tied to that user or console. If the disc is sold, the game could either be a demo version limited to a specific section or a pre-set number of plays and requiring the purchase of a code to unlock or - if Sony goes the whole hog - simply not work at al

well that sucks. Remember nintendo days, you'd take your game to your friends house and you were the man for having Game X? No longer!

Im sure you sign onto your firends system as yourself which will connect to the cloud which in sense will bring all your savedgames, and open the ability to play the games you own on his console. I could totally picture this.

But not being able to lend your friend the game might totally suck,,,unless you can like...un register/deactivate your game to your account and have your friend register as new owner of it or some crap..

So they never used the full potential of the PS3... why are they upgrading it?

And for the people talking about cloud gaming... Have fun downloading 4gb+ just to play a game. Internet providers are going to love this

What happens when your PS4 craps out and you have to get a new one? What happens to your game library?
