If the whole "no used games" thing happens, I will rarely be able to buy video games. People who buy used games buy them for a myriad of reasons; them being more affordable is just one of them.

Meh, within 6months someone is going to crack the drive or something and piracy will begin for that next gen consoles. Games will be able to be burned, or even ran off HDD's

Do you think Sony cares about the reasons? The only thing they see is all of the money they are losing because of GameStop.

I am more concerned about the build of the console and if it will stay together. I have been through 3 PS3s in 4 years. They die, all the time. The reason? The console has non-lead solder, as it is classified as a toy. The solder heats because of inadequate cooling, and melts over time, causing the CPU and GPU to not be contacted. The PS3 could be "fixed" in an oven or by being reflowed, but it was expensive or time consuming.

If this is classified as a toy, and has no lead, I will not buy. Shame to invest money into something that WILL die, especially when all your games belong to one console.

I just sold my dead PS3 with controller, dvd remote and keyboard, with 4 games and all cables for $100. The remote and controller were that new...

This better work like it should.

My original 80GB ps3 I bought in 2006 beasted until 2009, blu ray disk drive failed, but everything else worked fine. Bought my 2nd ps3 that same day and here on 2013 I'm using it to watch Netflix.. Only know one other person that has had issues with their ps3.

Xbox is no different. They're all disposable.

I guess you just have to get lucky. Ive had my PS3 since the first year when it launched i think its the old 80G LOL still runs fine. Only problem i had is recently the HDMI port became loose and wouldnt work so i had to switch to componet cables. I dont buy used games but thats really gonna screw a lot of people who cant afford a $70-$80 game. And you watch how much PS4 games go up in price.

why get the ps4 when the ps5 is coming out sometime in the future?

My PS3 has run solid since the day I got it over 6 years ago. Will DEFINITELY pick one of these up.

Looking at the specs again. It be a nice pc rig.

I already have a the ATI card that's going into the next xbox on my pc so in a sense the next gen is already here for me.

But man the standard now with the ps4 is pretty serious for consoles.

My ps3 has ran solid for years. Maybe you're rough on your hardware and or have it set up in a place where adequate cooling cannot be achieved.

I wouldn't mind paying 400 or even 800 for a great piece of machine, oh wait this isn't the 720 thread

Ive had two RROD on the 360..

I have the Yellow light of death on the ps3 metal gear edition.

Ive had the PC card 8800 GTX melt down with Starcraft 2

I fixed the 360 with x clamp mods, I fixed the ps3 with the same reflow soldering then sold it.

the gtx 8800 was fixed 3 seperate time in a oven for ten minutes at 370 degrees..

they all overheat it seems after a few years..


I do hope they solve it in the new generation with a big, big a55 fan or small a55 NM chips.

Nope. I use my 8 core mac pro to play Battlefield 3, and bought an Apple TV to do the movie crap. Basically, I fixed the problem by eliminating it.

I will say my PS3 was always on, but well ventilated, always cleaned and kept in a smoke free environment.

My original NES still works... Same with my PS2, PS1, Super NES and Nintendo 64... Why do my PS3s die?
