Fairfax County is notorious for NOT reducing points

I've been to DMV three times in the last two months looking for my tags. I have a MD temp tag and my car is registered in VA.

You can use what happened to me when you go to court. lol Tell them that you've been looking for your plates in the mail and they haven't arrived yet. And that every time you went to DMV, they "claimed" that they were ordered and could take up to 60 days for them to arrive. Then tell them, that they did not give you "temp tags" because your car is still registered in NYc until Month/Year (your expiration date of tags) and the tags are still on your car. You were informed that this is okay. Last time you went another clerk saw the error and said that the tags were not ordered, so you paid the $10 and they said that they will arrive within 60days. #truestory

^ from what I understand he has VA tags on the car already, just not a VA drivers license.

For the $150 or whatever it would seriously not be worth a day off of work to go down and fight this, to MAYBE have it reduced. Have you thought of slowing down? Or not living in a police state (VA)?

slowing down? you guys act like am I am a speed racer. I was driving behind multiple cars during morning commute. I call BS on anyone who says they go exactly 55 or exactly 35 all the time... I am only going to fight this for the points and insurance hike. I'll gladly pay the fines because like everyone else has said "you got caught"

I still dont fully understand the VA DL thing. I have a house NY because I am originally from there, so I obviously have a NY DL. I have a house now in VA, my e46 is parked here year around so I got VA tags. Why do I need to have a VA DL?

you should have just paid for the tax decal and parking decal (if needed) and leave the NY tags

question. Are you paying taxes in NY or VA? Where do you work and live 51% of the time?

I am not trying to be a spoiler for you - but you are skirting the law.

The reason YOU were pulled over and not the others flowing in traffic - the tint...you gave the officer additional cause for the stop

It really sucks and I am "sorry" for ya...I have rcvd a few tint and front tag tickets in my life - thus me knowing how it all works and giving you the information I could.

I am not saying you were wrong - but, the combination of "offences" got you...

No worries I am not getting offended by anyone.

I didnt know I could have NY plates and just pay the VA tax/parking decal...That would've been so much easier LOL.

I plan to speak with the DA before the hearing in April to explain myself. Obviously "sorry" I didnt switch my DL (I will this weekend most likely). The tint was on the vehicle before I had it, but "I am the one driving it" so its on me. And like you said, the tint gave him a reason to pull me over.

Ultimately the tint lead to the "speeding" which lead to the out of state DL. He probably was smiling in his undercover impala once he found out I had out of state license to add on top of everything else.

Sadly, you fit one of the profiles. He pulls you for tint and finds the lic issues too. Just think of the DUIs, outstanding warrants, etc they find

I used to have one, and I sold it last year. He didnt radar me so it wouldnt have helped anyways. Wouldve wrote me another ticket for having one

Even if this was relevant, this is the wrong radar detector to get for VA. You need a M3-based detector like a Bel STi-R, Escort 9500ci, or Escort Redline. Those are the ones that are undetectable by the Spectre. Even then, you should conceal it.

This is why I refuse to get tints on any of my cars in this area; as much as i'd like to I'd rather not give cops any excuse to pull me over for.
