EML and DSC lights on. Where to start?

On the way home from the store my car started to run really rough, jumping pretty bad. I pulled over and looked over the bay to see if anything was out of place. Everything seemed fine so I turned the car back on. It kept running rough. Just before I got home the DCS and EML lights turned on. What does this mean? It idles really rough too. I've done some research and it seems that the case is different on some cases. My question is where do I start? car is 01 330ci 5spd

Check for any codes yet?

Although searching has come up with random results, I would still suggest looking into the common recommendations.

Not yet, I'm fearful of driving it to a shop how it is and I don't have a scanner myself. My buddy is coming over soon to bring his.

Also, I've found the most common solution is to clean the throttle body and DISA. I've only had my bimmer for a few months so I'm still new to the engine, keep that in mind.

Hi,
You can try cleaning the throttle but that may not be your issue unless the flap is physically jamming during movement. Above your throttle body, you have an idle air control valve that is common to become jammed from build-up and can cause the EML/DSC malfunctions. Try cleaning it well (it should be removed for cleaning)

Thanks, I was planning on cleaning those parts since that's the most common solution for this problem. I just pulled the codes.

Check your throttle body as well. At least on the m3, EML+DSC almost always means throttle position sensor. On non-Ms, the TPS is built into the throttle body itself.

Literally just had this issue with mine, except mine won't go over about 20 MPH and hiccups/idles really rough. Finally had it diagnosed this morning. Check my thread - http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=970945 - just to get a good idea of what it could be. I'm going to be posting pics of all the codes that have been popping up and then you can check to see if anything similar is showing on yours.
